I haven't posted much here, though I do read. I don't remember reading on this

topic. My grandson is 15, has moderate to severe autism. He is nonverbal, but

minimal words have emerged. He had severe regression these past 10 days. We

didn't know he had a strep infection, though his Mom and baby brother tested

positive and were on antibiotics two weeks ago. He didn't have symptoms of it.

We did notice there was more verbal stims, that we now realize are verbal tics.

He started blinking, and squinting up one eye, and then that behavior increased.

Then on Monday at school he told his teacher " mouth hurts " We all assumed, it

was another ulcer, which he has had chronically and for which we have a

prescription to put on them. When he got here I asked him about it and he

showed me an ulcer. His Mom made an appointment for Tuesday morning, and he was

tested for strep. The Ped said the culture showed he has had strep for a week

or more and he also told us his tics is caused from PANDAS! The research I have

done says they are irreversible, severity will wax and wane, and he has now

regressed in his attentiveness, interaction, and his verbal tics/stims, and

physical tics are chronic even though he has been on an antibiotic since

Tuesday. We are sick about this. We so want him to progress, and get better,

and now he has gotten worse. Has anyone else experienced this? Also, on Monday

he had severe SIB biting incidents at school and high pitched squeals. He has a

history of SIB but they have been fewer until this episode. PANDAS can cause

behavior issues too :(

The TACA group has some PANDAS moms on there. There may be PANDAS specific . I seem the remember a podcast where a mom talked about improvements her child made. I'll see if I can find itSent from my iPhoneOn May 19, 2011, at 7:00 PM, "ckcarlson52" <cathykay@...> wrote:
