Berard AIT? Does it work for your child?

Hi ,I strongly, strongly suggest that you look into Integrated Listening Systems (iLs).http:// www.integratedlistening.com . It is 3 times the program the old AIT is. If AIT was the only form of listening therapy I would say to go with it, like I did years ago, but now there are better programs. I call AIT "parent abuse". It is 10 days straight of listening for a half hour then having to kill 3 hours with your kiddo then listen again for 1/2 hr. My kids were young when I paid $2000 each for AIT, for 2 kids at different times and it almost killed me. Yes we had nice results and were told they could never listen through headphones again. I was also told I might need to do it again.I found Integrated Listening Systems was the best choice when I looked into a lot of different systems a couple years ago. The most prestigious OT practice in my area was using it and recommending it as well. It is a flexible program that can be done at home, in a professional's office like OT, or at school where you have it written into your IEP. It is on an iPod, so you wear the unit and it has customized bone conduction in the headphones which really makes the difference in sensory processing and for autism. Plus iLs has a movement program with a balance board and hanging ball. It is like several programs combined and so flexible depending on ability. The iPod has 4 different programs that can be done: Sensory Processing, Attention and Concentration, Reading and Auditory Processing, 2 parts of an Optimal Performance. I bought the total Focus unit and it came with the movement equipment. The program can be used by the whole family forever with no additional fees when you buy it from the company. I got the "Total Focus" home unit with a coach direct from iLs. My youngest made great gains with just listening to one program but he made HUGE jumps in ability with each program he listened to. He listened on and off for about a year until I felt he no longer needed improvements. He was able to get off 4 meds including ones for sleep, attention, behavior, mood. His voice volume and articulation improved drastically. He greatly improved in his grades, ability to write his thoughts on paper, socialization, self esteem, hyperactivity, sleep, memory, ability to work on his own etc. My son with autism really improved on his sound sensitivity as well. The key is to listen for a longer amount of time to really get all the benefits where AIT is just 10 days and it is simply not enough. Plus we listen to more programs every now and then just to be sure we are functioning at our best, especially after ear infections or other sickness and after big growth spurts. I used the program for about a year as well and have wonderful improvements in my ADHD. Improvements in: memory (I stopped using lists), ability to be on time, attention, sleep, ability to make decisions, word retrieval. ETC. I feel like it took the air out of my head so I could process. I finally have the ability to get out of my own way.Listening therapy does work, if you are going to put in the time and expense you want the program that does the most.
