Guest guest
I just had another thought, which could be relevant to all of our kids and their families. I recently sent away for a bunch of tapes from the Tourette Syndrome Assoc. Still haven't gone through all of them, but I showed my son AV-12 " A Teacher Looks at TS " with Conners/intro by Polly Draper. It is a wonderful presentation that is suitable for almost any age group -- students, teachers, family, etc. Conners is funny, comprehensive, thoughtful and provides more insight on the TS/OCD spectrum (based on her own lifelong experience) than most single-sources can provide. The entire tape is her own presentation to a group of teachers, to help them identify and respond effectively to the various behaviors that may be exhibited by their students. It's also fascinating to watch because she tics throughout the presentation, but is apparently completely unaffected by it. Our 14.5 y.o. son has been completely reticent about discussing his TS/OCD/ADHD with anyone. Two weeks after seeing the tape, he had arranged with the school counselor and Dean of Students, on his own, to sit down with a half-dozen other students to watch the tape and then lead a discussion and Q & A about his situation. I bought a second copy to give to the school :-) Jane B. People reading in front of others for all sorts of reasons make odd noises, lose their places, tug at their clothing, sway back and forth, etc. and we in the audience don't usually notice or think too much about it. I predict your daughter will do just fine! :-)
