Guest guest
I just KNEW it! BUT, it's been under control. manages school and home life very well. But I wondered about his staying up late at night. I kept telling him it was due to his still taking naps each day after school, they can last 2 or more hours. He began the naps after beginning Celexa - which he quit last May. Randall - who is also a night owl; really he needs to work 3rd shift and not have to be at work at 7AM! but that's another story, LOL - anyway, Randall (older brother) had commented a while back about how late is staying up. will tell me good night each night, says he's going to bed. But then I myself am in bed so I just have to trust my kids(!) and I'm not aware of what's going on. Well, this morning said he didn't get to bed until 4a.m. I asked if it had anything to do with OCD. I get that " shrug " that many of you here will know well ( is known for shrugging to answers over the years). But then I asked again and got a " MAYBE " ! Well - what it boils down to is his thoughts are keeping him from sleeping. His mind is too busy. I asked was it anything like before when he had OCD bedtime problems - where he had to get into/onto the bed the " right way " , etc., and I asked if he had the " something bad will happen to me " feeling. He said " no " to both of those. I asked for specifics about the thoughts. No, he couldn't do that. Well, of course, I go into what I know of OCD thoughts, appear at all ages, very young kids even, directions they can take and so on, thinking he might say " maybe " somewhere along the way. I got no clues at all. So I just reminded him that we do have some Celexa left and we also have inositol powder. AND we also have some melatonin he could try earlier, an hour or so before bed; none of us have tried melatonin yet. He seemed like he might be leaning towards the inositol powder, but I didn't get any sure answer. I guess I'm gonna wait and see, let him ask for something. I'll bring up the subject again this week. We've just had so many holidays lately, we are all off our sleep schedules. BUT I think 's been doing this all along maybe. I don't know about staying up until 4a.m., but I know he's been up until 2a.m. some nights (Randall's comment). If he's been managing all along this way just fine - he is still making straight A's all year and not using his 504 Plan and is fine at home overall - this might just be " how it is " for him with OCD. But I do want to find out if there's been any kind of increase since coming off the Celexa last May. Gotta go!
