How beautiful! He sounds like an incredible man...thanks for sharing

some of him with us :)

It's funny how fate works sometimes! When my parents were alive, we

lived in Miami so the only time we got to see everyone was at Christmas

or in the summer. For some reason, we came to visit everyone over

Thanksgiving the year they died. I think they were doing something

with a house they owned in the Poconos. Anyway, they got a chance to

see all my moms brothers and sisters and her dad and also my dad's

family. The next weekend they died. In a way, everyone got the chance

to see them before they died....it's strange how that all works

sometimes! I'm so glad you had the chance to spend so much quality time

with before he died. I bet you have wonderful memories of that

week :)

How romantic! I like to think of myself as a modern girl, but I still

think that is so romantic when a guy asks your dad for permission! I

didn't get that lucky with Bob....ha ha! I'm sure your dad will always

have a special place in his heart for .

I know how hard today must have been for you, but I am so glad you

shared a bit of with us. Please feel free to share with us any

time you have the need!

Big hugs, Susi!

I think this shows what a wonderful and respectful man he was.

Traditions like these never should go out of style.

Barb

who has tremendous respect for Cubans and consider them the Hispanic Jews in

the way Cubans believe in education (no offense to anyone, just a personal

observation being Jewish and raised to go to college)

My dad was Jewish (dear God, don't ask!) and I grew up with the knowledge

that NOT going to college was NOT an option. He instilled the importance of

education in me, and I have passed it on to my kids. My 4 year old knows you

go to high school, then college. College is not an option in this house, it's

a requirement! LOL!

na,

I have to concur with Barbara's reference to Jews' making education a

high priority. (That does not mean that there are no non-Jews who

regard education as important. It's just that it is a priority of the

Jewish culture.) I grew up in New York where there is a huge Jewish

population, and I saw this first-hand there. Secondly, on a more

personal note, my father's family is Jewish. There was NO questions

that all the males of my grandfather's generation would attend college

(we're talking from 1900-1920) and would become " professionals "

(doctors, engineers, and rabbis). When my father became an

actor/singer, and his younger brother became a salesman, it was a

disgrace to my grandparents and the extended family. (Go figure!)
