Guest guest
OK, this is where I need help from moms with older kids and more experience. I've been noticing that Annemieke (ds) gets sick a day or two after playing with the toys her DI brings for her therapy. I can't prove this, but I don't want Mieke to get sick again to prove it! She gets sick gives it to her sister who gives it to me, a nightmare we all understand. Anyway the question is, how do I ask the DI NOT to use her toys ? She makes a big show of wiping down her toys, or trying to before leaving. We haven't been seeing her long and I don't want to insult her because Mieke likes her. We have an appt. today at 3:30 est, any help would be appreciated. Thanks, mom to twins Arielle and Annmieke (ds) 21 months
Guest guest
, Hi and Welcome to the group. How does Mieke get sick? What kind of symptoms does she get? It might be that she is allergic to something in the room or even the buiding. The therapist are required to santitize all the toys after each session. You may want to ask if she is doing that. Also your little one may be allergic to something the ttherapist is wearing, like her perfume. If Mieke is getting a runny nose ansd sneeezing afterward, then you know she is allergic. My Hannah seems to be allergic to EVERYTHING! But so is Mom. lol YUK! Good luck with finding the cause. Oh yeah, You might have to ask your ped. to put Mieke on some allergy meds. ===== Pam Mom to Identical twins Hannah (Hannah Banana), (Huggy Bear) age 5, Josh 19 and Dusty 14 __________________________________________________
Guest guest
Sorry, I should have been more clear. We have in-home therapies. I didn't want to have to BE somewhere at a certain time. It's hard enough making sure they have had a proper nap and lunch and the toys are picked up off the floor before the therapists show up. (btw Mieke's PT thinks she may release her after next session in June, because she is doing so well. YEAH!!!) Also when I said sick, I meant like a suffy nose and cough with slight fever that ALWAYS gets passed on to us. That's why I suspect the toys. This early on I don't want to be known as a trouble maker, but ...... Oh well.. This all strikes me as unusal because the girls are VERY healthy most of the time. We are very lucky in that respect. The only " problem " Annemieke has had was a pinpoint ductus leak that was pronounced closed at around 12 months. Even her hypotonia seems more at will, ie. " I don't want to go over there ! " I did have trouble with one speech theropist, Mieke's on her 4th in less than a year, that always wore lots of perfume and Mieke wouldn't get anywhere near her most of the time. Any other ideas, opinions or comments are welcome Thanks, mom to twins Arielle and Annemieke(ds) 21 months Re: delicate situation , Hi and Welcome to the group. How does Mieke get sick? Guest guest
Sanda: I wouldn't see anything wrong with asking for the toys to be washed down *before* she starts therapy. Also, I wouldn't at all be embarassed to ask the therapist to wash her hands before she touches your daughter!! Handwashing is one of the most effecting thing to help stop the spread of germs. (Learned this the hard way thru oru 4 mos. in NICU). We had a standard policy at our house that anybody (and I do mean anybody) who walked thru the door went immediately to the sink and washed their hands. People may have thought we were neurotic (and we probably were), but our boys health was much more important to us than other peoples opinions. And, it worked. They were very healthy that first year home from the hospital w/only 2 colds each! Good luck!
