Guest guest
Really. He never calls you by name? Interesting. My 13 year old step son never calls me anything. Ever. If you ask him who I am, he'll reply Judy. But, when talking to me, calling for me, anything. He also has a great stuttering problem, except for when he reads. And his stuttering often stops his speech. It almost seems like he knows the sentence, but can't get it out. We try to stop him from trying to talk so quickly and say what he wants to say. Takes a lot of time... talking kids << Also, how many here have ds/asd kid's who can speak more than a handful of words? Donna, Montyman's curious Mom>> Hi, Everyone....Donna....Gareth has a full vocabulary up to the 4-5th grade level. He can put together 2-4 word sentences, but stutters so badly that he usually drops the sentences and says a single word to get his message across. My one brother and I both stuttered as children, but outgrew it. Gareth's is far worse than we ever were, though. It's funny, but this is only for normal talking. If he is looking at words and reading a story out loud, he can talk fine.....go figure!!! Gareth signed as a toddler, before the autism hit. His speech never picked up till after we started him on the Risperdal at age 10. I don't know if he would be verbal now if he wasn't on the Risperdal/Prozac. I WON'T take him off them to find out, though!!! With us unpacking boxes daily, Gareth wants to help out. He has given up on trying to say the word 'boxes' because he stutters it so badly.....now he just spells it out!!! <<Does anyone else have a name that is a 'whistle'? I think he is so funny, if I ignore him, he growls. >> Gareth won't call me 'Mom' even though he knows I am his mom. He has always called me " Hey, Buddyboy " . Joking back, I usually say " What do you, Buddygirl? " Take care, Everyone. Margaret
