I see at 14 picking up on things that were impossible for him a few

years ago. He is working on feature, function, class with his in-home team. Ex.

a

blue ball- feature is blue, function is play or to throw, class is a toy. He

is flying through these where a year ago he wouldn't have had a clue about

it. Now if we could just get one to one number correspondence.

Hi Irma,

Zeb doesn't read that well. I started teaching him using the book, Teaching

Children to Read with DS. I use various method but I am working on blending

sound, beginning and ending sounds to get that phonetic piece to click. I have

to

switch methods often to make this seem like fun games and not real work. He

is slick. When Zeb was in the early grades the school failed and refused to

teach him these primary reading skills. At my recent PPT with the new attorney,

the school was advised that the measurable progress from the past 4 yrs was

minimal. Zeb will have a tutor the entire summer and a comprehensive independant

reading eval. It was a very long meeting and the reading was just one of the

issues addressed. I am certain the school is waiting for a due process etc. so

they are scrambling at this point. My agenda was rather lengthy but I did

request a distict wide disability awareness program throughout all of the

schools,

30-50 children's books on disabilities to be purchased for each school

library and pictures framed and hung in the school main areas and hallways of

children with disabilities. The school honored every request. I need to make a

horrible situation positive not only for Zeb but every student that follows his

path. I have only just begun!

Hi Irma,

Glad to hear that you are safe. Did you get the winds with the rain or just

the rain?

Hi Irma,

So sorry, I forgot about that book, it's great. You can adapt whatever you

need to for and it will give you a base.

Hi Irma,

I removed Zeb from his day camp and placed him in the regular summer school.

The school was somewhat resistant to the idea but enrolled him. My prayers

were answered when I picked him up today. He is the only student with

intellectual disabilities in that school. I guess I'm the button pusher choosing

to go

where no one has tried,LOL. The general teacher said that he did awesome work,

raised his hand and answered some very hard questions. I don't think the

expectation was ever thought about with the summer school teacher. I think she

learned not to write the DS part off. I finished writing the letter at 3:30 am.

I

am still not finished with equipment but I'm going to make it on time.
