Guest guest
You all know we voted down our tax measure, so folks are being kicked out of group homes and losing support funds tomorrow/tonight. Our schools are short 24 days of funding as well. Here is the latest development: January 31, 2003 Teachers tell school district to take a 'time out' Teacher contract talks have broken down in Oregon's largest school district. Late Friday afternoon, Portland teachers declared an impasse in their contract negotiations with the Portland School District. Both sides have seven days to make a final contract offer to one another. If both sides reject a compromise, then the clock will start ticking on a 30-day cooling off period. Any time during that cooling off period, Portland teachers could vote to strike. " A strike is not likely, but it's a possibility. If we can't find an agreement, that's a choice they would make, " said Portland Schools Superintendent Jim Scherzinger. At the end of the 30-day cooling off period, the district can implement its final offer, or teachers could go on strike. Both sides could go back to the bargaining table at any time, if they feel they could make some progress. --------------------------- So if I seem out of touch wiht you all, now you know why. I have no idea when the 24 days or more will hit my family. How does one try to drum up in-home support??? j
