Guest guest
Charlene, The price that DLS charges is not three times higher than what a doctor would pay. And what the doctor pays and what you pay are not necessarily the same, depending on the state you live.in. Also, what happens when the doctor won't order the test? Who will take the liability? Why the comment about " putting themselves under the quise " of helping parents? Do you know who they are or anything about them? I do and if they are out for the money they are certainly good at hiding all of it. Your statement that it isn't covered by insurance by using DLS is false. That certainly doesn't mean that it will be covered, but please don't say it won't unless you know for sure. I can vouch that some people have had coverage using them. If you can find it cheaper, do it. If you can't, someone like DLS is willing to do the work, and yes it does cost more than if your doc orders it. They also don't charge for their time, or any other fees that your doctor charges for. Guest guest
Charlene, I work with DLS and I have an alliance with DLS but I receive no renumeration from them. And the reason for my involvement with them is because they do provide services for people who need them and can't get access. The prices reflect a cost of doing business. Your doctor may not charge for anything extra for doing a test but do you think they are doing it for nothing? They charge you extra for time they spend or don't spend on you. The price comes out pretty much the same and probably a lot more. A major mistatement you made is that the charge for the Ion Report from DLS is $1600. NOT TRUE. Go to this page - http://www.healthchoice.net/lab/labtest_menu.html go down 3/4 of the way down and see that the price they charge is $649, not $1600! The fees they charge are not 3 times higher than your doctor charges you. Check the facts before you make the statement. In many states, there is no law about charging the same price for the blood test as the lab charges the doctor. It is true in California, but not in many other states. In New York and New Jersey, the lab has to charge the patient directly and the fees are 3-4 times higher than elsewhere. DLS also has a " legitimate MD " sign the requisition form. Guest guest
Personally, I was very disappointed in Metametrix, there were 38 values taken from this test, and the Kennedy Krieger, the gold standard lab in the United States, had 67 values taken including markers for demyelination. Much more than that, the Kennedy Krieger lab required that their blood arrive early next morning. I wrote openly on the DAN list about this and another physican agreed that the blood would have to examined in this short peroid of time for it to be accurate. I paid $325 for my red cell fatty acid test and interpretation that my insurance company paid for because it was from s Hopkins. The Direct Lab services from the website says below that the Metametrix test with the 'BioReport' is $475. The actual lab cost of the red cell fatty acid test from Metametrix is $175 according to my doctor. Direct Lab Services is much high ($229 for doctors, $290 for patients). Cost is one thing, but going through the blood draw with my son, and not being satisfied that the results were accurate is an entirely different thing. Guest guest
, Your statement about the cost from DLS for the Red Cell Fatty Acid report is wrong, again. The cost is $329 with BioReport. Second, so what if a lab reports 67 vaules when 25 of them have no reported meaning. On top of it, the method that Kennedy Krieger uses while years ago was the " gold standard " no longer is. The percentage method they use is liable to make major errors in interpretation is any of the minor fats, without meaning are abnormally high. The cost to the doc and the patient is $229, not $290. Come on, lets be accurate. Guest guest
Mark, I am confused because DLS website says the doctor cost is $229, and $290 for the test without your interpretation. If the cost is $329 then why does DLS list the cost as $475 to the patient on their website? There is a big difference between these laboratories; Metametrix is a commercial lab. Kennedy Krieger is a research lab. Individually the fatty acids might not all have meaning, however, they do when they are categorized and balanced (omega-3, omega-6, monounsaturated, saturated, very long chains, odd chain, and trans). The MM report didn't provide enough information about all the fatty acids that were in those categories to make it useful. For example, I was only given two values for trans fats, one was negative and the other was positive, so they canceled each other out, however on the KK report, there were five trans fats reported that showed a complete picture of trans fats. The more values that you have the clearer the picture for the basic categories. The values for demeylination were the most important information for us on the KK test. After having an MRI, that only told us that demyelination was delayed, knowing the stability of the myelin became critical information. I have a friend with a daughter with adrenoleukodystrophy and we compared KK testing. According to the MRI, our children looked frightfully similar, but not on our KK report. There was nothing on the MM report that could have given me this information and it was the reason why I had run the MM report in the first place, that was largely my disappointment. I placed the KK and MM report side by side, anyone could see that the KK lab, was far more complex. And the medical interpretation that Dr. Kane wrote for the KK lab is not only accepted by regular doctors, but is now being used in research and universities. Once Dr.Kane had the raw data, that is what gave the report the utmost significance, Dr.Kane has run over 700 fatty acid tests on autistic children. If there was something usual about my son's tests, she would certainly be someone who would know what to do. As far as " doctor's charges " go, one only should have to pay for what they need. If it is an hour consultation, the patient should only be charged that one hour. My physician only charges, on the average of 30 or 40 dollars an hour, and that is covered by our insurance and our medicaid. Didn't you say that the physician charges $200 for a consult? Will insurance cover all of that? I wish you could tell us more about your services. What each charge means, because there were no other Bodybio charges, none for the kit, none for the blood draw, not that I was billed. I would like to know of recoveries, if there are parents on-line that have had success with this treatment? Actually, Bodybio doesn't publish such reports either, I think most parents learn of their services through other parents or families that have gone through the treatment. I probably needed to consult with my physician more than what I did, others could keep the cost of the treatment down of not having to go back for all kinds of little questions, if they had help. I had started Bodybio a couple of weeks before Charlene, and we ended up helping each other, with all of the trivial questions. I certainly would help any parent that needed it, if they were using the Bodybio treatment. And I don't charge! It is rewarding enough in itself. Best, Forrest's Mom PS I started a list for this very reason, there is always plenty of help there. Guest guest
Couple of things. Read the website carefully and you wouldn't be so confused. Secondly, what does it matter if a lab is commercial or research? Being a research lab does not make one any better or worse. The reports you talk about and the bunching of elements in categories is not clinically valuable. You can rant on and on about it but it doesn't make it so. Having more values doesn't always make things clearer. Often times it can make things more muddled and present an incorrect picture. I won't comment on BodyBio, it isn't worth my effort. Guest guest
Mark, I am sorry, my intentions were not to offend you, but to have everyone learn more about your services, wasn't it one of the presidential candidates that said, you didn't have to get spiffy! <smile> Best, Forrest's Mom Mark Schauss wrote: > > Couple of things. Guest guest
Mark, Which labs are used for the DLS hair toxic elements and urine toxic elements tests? This would be a good option for folks not able to get their docs to order the first tests but I've found that results from various labs not all equal.
