Guest guest
Hi - I am from New Zealand and I suspected you had the same system there ( which is what my Canadian teacher friend had told me). In NZ Montessori preschools are considered private but the Government via Special Education Services (SES) provide a special needs child with a certain number hours dependent on each case. We are very big on mainstreaming Special Needs. Emma was considered high needs so for her transition into school they allocated her 15 hours teacher aid (5 mornings per week). Special Needs kids are mostly all given some hours whether they are at private schools or not. Is this not the case in Canada? Emma really needs the support right now but as she gets more capable she will have her hours reduced I'm sure! A friend of mine who has 2 autistic kids is struggling to get the hours - I don't know why they came easily to Emma. Carolyn
