Guest guest
Hi Stacey, Sorry it has taken me so long to respond to your question about raising a DS girl as compared to a DS boy. Well, since I have two boys and one girl, I can say there is somewhat of a difference. was much easier to potty train. She was just five when she was potty trained. Ben was 7 1/2. For me, has " talked " circles around the boys. Since is only 2 1/2, he isn't talking yet. He does say, " up, stop, and bye bye. " , by this age was already saying with enthusiasm, " WOW, and Hot and lots of other short words. " She is 6 now and very articulate in my opinion. She tattles and says, " mom,Ben did it, he did! He took my toy! " Ben on the other hand, said very little. He would repeat one word at a time. But to carry on a full conversation like ...well, it just didn't happen. I noticed repeats complete sentences after television shows, after people, after any one she's around. She is like an " echo " . She loves hearing herself even. She used to stand in her crib and watch her own lips as she jabbered and babbled. I noticed she began watching our lips when we spoke to her and by two she was repeating sounds and words very clearly. She is not calmer than my boys. In fact my third DS, , is my calmest. He's very quiet, he " stays " with me. ran away all the time, (she still does) and we have to have one us comitted to her at all times, as she is full of curiosity and full of wonder. She has no fear of getting lost. Ben was like this too. He'd get out of the gate and luckily, the dog would go with him. His little legs would go as fast as they could carry him. (seems kind of funny now) They neighbors would notice the dog, not Ben, and would tell us that our dog got out. When we'd go get him, we knew that Ben would be at his side. He always was! I am also wondering if there are more DS boys than girls. Since God has blessed us with three DS, I am glad that we were given both boys and a girl. They are each, very loving. They love to hug a lot! Another thing, they could care less if they have a bath or not. For Ben and , I have to make them both have a bath each day. If I didn't make them, they would not take one. They have such different personalities. For instance, Ben has always had a fantastic imagination when he plays. He'd line up all his cars in one direction and slowly drive them all. He'd line up shoes. Everyone's shoes! He'd tie up a doll figure with a shoe string on the arm of the chair and bring a toy train to pretend he's going to run over her, and then he'd stop the train and rescue his doll. He at 16, still loves toys! He'll play for hours and hours. on the other hand, does not play with any of her toys. She has no interest in them. She loves the outdoors and her cats. She's nosey and gets into things...cupboards....refrigerator....shelves... We constantly retrieve her from the roof of the chicken coop. She loves to climb..and she loves to play outdoors. She has been begging me to let her climb up on the roof of the house for months now. Oh course it's not going to happen!! We have a track around our house. Eight laps are one mile. She runs ahead of me when I walk my two miles and she runs back and forth and she does the whole two miles. I think she probably does three miles. One more comparison. Ben and both wake up before the sun comes up. They both always have done that. They wake up when it's still dark..around 5 am and they are up for the day. They are my last one's down for the day too! is my " sleeper. " She sleeps until I get her up for school...around 7:20 am. On weekends she'll sleep until 9 or 10 am. Ben and have NEVER done that! She is my first one down tool Just something that I noticed. Also, all three are fantastic eaters! They eat anything and everything! I never had a problem with any of them liking different foods. I am wondering if it helped a lot because we always sit down as a family (nine of us) and the DS watched us eat as a family....therefore...they ate whatever we were having. Just a thought and a theory. Also, Ben used to get up in the night and turn on all the lights. I'd wake up and turn them all off. (he'd be in his own bed asleep) I'd wake up again and all the lights would be on again. (I'm talking...every room in the house!) Well guess what? just started doing that too! (Ben is 16 and stopped around 10-12 years old.) Now I find all lights on again and it's definately . Only difference, is that she turns them all on and then she climbs into our bed. I ask her why she turned them all on . She said " because I'm scared. " Well, I didn't mean to talk your leg off, but I did. Have a great day. Guest guest
Hi Joyce, As I said before, I love to hear your stories. There could never be a dull moment around your house! My Sara (DS) who just turned five seems to do many of the things your does. For example, she loves to watch my lips when I talk or read to her and she loves to watch her lips move in the mirror, especially when I put lipstick on them. She also loves to run circles around me when I go out for a jog, and for a short distance can outrun me! You have a wealth of experience to draw from...thank you for sharing it! Guest guest
OHMYGOD!! Joyce, you would not believe how much I hear you talking about my Rudy (12) when you talked about Ben!! I'm almost in tears to know someone else knows!! Geez!! The lights, the toys, the lining up the shoes!! Let me ask you, did/does he roll things? Rudy will sit on the floor with plastic cups and roll them around himself forever!! He also has a thing about sticks... and paper!! He learned how to make paper airplanes and they are everywhere if we arent careful.. Thank you Joyce for making me feel a little sane! But I guess we do that for each other here huh? I just cant get over this!! I thought they were just " Rudyisms " ... Ok now I am crying!! Stupid huh? They are tears of joy though & relief. Thanks again. mom to Rudy (ds) & 12, TJ
Guest guest
Thanks Joyce. I loved the glimpse into your life. It sounds like a nice existance. Another question, how do your non-Ds kids interact with the kids who have Ds? I would assume like any siblings but maybe more or less patience. Looking forward to making you my guru!
