Guest guest
: They have a school here in Dallas too (no boarding tho), Notre Dame. It's actually for developmentally delayed kids (not just DS). Also, a couple of years ago they opened a RISE school here (If you read Gene Stallings book, Another Season, you'll know what this is). I took a tour of Notre Dame last year - I was very impressed, but not keen on the idea that they wouldn't have the " inclusion " like they'd get thru the public school. The behavior of all the kids I saw was AMAZING. They were wonderful. Polite, no screaming, yelling, running down the halls. It also seemed to be a very loving and nurturing atmosphere. I know a few people who have their kids in RISE. That school is inclusive, but I have heard they are having a hard time getting non-ds kids to go there. Tuition is extremely expensive but I hear they have a very generous scholarship program. The Dallas Cowboys have a program called " First Downs for Down Syndrome " and everytime they make a " first down " they donate money to the RISE school (again, that old Gene Stallings tie).
