Guest guest
In our case baby C was the one with Down syndrome but we didn't found out until I have them. I had ultarsounds monthly and never showed anything wrong with a. It was until 8 hours after I had them when I went with my mother to see the babies at NICU when I saw a and just looking to her face I knew she had ds. Does anyone of you with triplets knew previously you are having a baby with ds? Have some of you have read the book " Babies with Down Syndrome " ? In the hospital they recommend us that book and finaly last week I bought it. Guest guest
Hi , I was not at the chat last night. Once I get home from worked my nights are totally focused on a (DS) and Cory. So, by the time we get them down I'm ready to go down too and the chats are usually over. a is a night owl and doesn't go down until 9:30 - 10:30. She sure doesn't sleep much! I'll be happy when she starts sleeping a little more. She only takes a 40 minute nap in the morning and another 40 minute in the afternoon and then she's up at 5:00 or 6:00 in the morning again. Maybe when she's starts moving around a little more she'll start sleeping more. Over the holidays she started sitting up all on her own and started to belly crawl to get things she wants, mixed in with rolling. Anyway, a (DS) was twin A in our case and was the one with a lot of medical problems that almost killed her. She is definitely a survivor! Cory twin B has been normal with the exception of several ear infections, which he will be getting tubes to clear up that up soon. - mom to a (DS) and Cory - 18 months (http://www.asapnet.net/mr_mach/) Twin A or B have DS?.... Guest guest
Well, since we didn't get S & P's DX until they were 1 month old, I don't know if it will count. Sam was " Baby-A " , , " Baby-B " . We got Sam's DX first, 's was confirmed 4 days later (that's as fast as a STAT chromosome analysis can be). Initially, Sam was more seriously ill than , but towards about 3mos, that flip-flopped and was not doing well (until they DX'd his malrotation). Since then, their health has been about equal. Guest guest
Kind of a long story, but here goes the condensed version: Sam was very sick. Amongst other things, he had some liver complications that weren't preemie related and could have been chromosomal. The Doc ran a chromosome analysis (w/o telling us, but that's another story) because, and I quote: " I didn't really think it was chromosomal and didn't want you to worry until the results came back " . He claimed to have been shocked by the trisomy 21 results. He didn't run them on because, he, like everyone else, thought that they were fraternal twins (Sam was vaginal birth, C-section so they couldn't check the placenta). So, when Sam's came back Trisomy 21, they ran a stat chromosome analysis on and it took 4 days. There was our answer that they were identical (not to mention they look alike, had the same blood type, etc. This just clinched it). However, when we got Sam's DX of DS, I clearly remember looking over at in his isolette (he was finally next to Sam at this point) and he was awake and staring at me w/those big blue eyes and in my heart, I knew the answer right then and there. I didn't have to wait for the test to come back. Judi --- Huckabee <ahuckabee@...> wrote: > Judi, > > Why was there a 4 day difference in diagnosis? > Were > the tests done at same time? Guest guest
Hi - I'm catching up on my mail so here's my answer. Rudy (ds) was twin B. I was also told that on b/g twins the girl is almost always the first born.... another point to ponder. Also that the twin tendency comes from the mother. Guest guest
Re: Twin A or B have DS?.... Survey Sorry I'm so late responding too. It's been a long time since I've posted anything. I started out pregnancy with 3 babies. One stopped growing at 8 weeks. My son with Down Syndrome was baby " B " . I'm sorry I have not been around. My computer crashed, my husband and I both had the flu, Danny got sick with some bizarre rash on his stomach that the doctor could not identify, he also saw the behaviourist, and we went to the orthopedic doctor about his atlanto-axial instability. The doctor was awesome! It was so obvious he loved Danny, and of course, Dan reflected that right back. The bottom line is HE'S FINE. YAY! No instability in his cervical spine. I was also drawn into the post about the woman (Margi?), who lost one of her twins late in pregnancy. How is she? I lost my first son to intrauterine demise, and I had an awful time. But I'm ok now. I'm hoping her remaining baby will be very healthy, and that she's alright. Bye everyone Jean mom of n and Danny (DS) they'll be 7 in one month! Guest guest
Hi - Just out of curiosity, did Danny have ear infection with the stomach rash? Rudy was about his age when he had scarlet fever which produces a large very red rash on the stomach. The dr's had to look it up because it is so rare now but he had ear infections which off shooted (read word???) to the Scarlet fever mom to Rudy (ds) &
Guest guest
All is well with Margi, Jean. They gave her a " keepsake " box with her baby's footprints, handprints, and some of his hair. She seems to be alright. She was even making jokes about the night she gave birth the hospital sent a social worker, a priest, and a counselor to speak with her...she wondered if they found her sane. She feels that the birth of their daughter will help her heal the most and having a new baby in the house is a wonderful healing aide. Re: Twin A or B have DS?.... Guest guest
: The *twin tendency comes from the mother* is only in Fraternal twins, because the mother has a tendency to ovulate 2 eggs every month instead of just one. In identical twins, it is a *genetic anomaly*. One fertilized egg splits in two. Fraternals are the twins that *run in families* (but only thru the mother). Identical is just the luck of the draw! Guest guest
: Yep, a clinic just for DS!! It's part of the Genetics Dept. at Children's Medical Center, here in Dallas. They have clinic every Friday. They like to see kids at least 1x/yr until the age of 3, then every 2-3 years after that. They follow-up with a letter on their findings to your Ped. and anyone else you want it sent to (ECI, etc.). We saw and OT/ST this visit. Met w/the Nurse, didn't have to meet w/the genetic counselor, didn't meet w/the social worker (she was attending a funeral that day), and then finally met w/Dr. Golder . I forget his exact title, but he's the head Doc over Genetics, and he's just the nicest man you'd ever want to meet! The clinic provides advice, support, send your ped. ds medical checklists, growth charts, etc. I've called and asked stupid questions and they always have the time to talk to me. The Dallas Down Syndrome Guild also has a member representative there who meets w/all the families. Plus, quarterly the Guild and the Clinic do " workshops " . I've attended them on topics like: Estate Planning, Speech, Sleeping disorders, Nutrition, etc. I had seen a list on the Web of different DS clinics around the country. I'll see if I can find it again and sent it to you and you can see if there is something close to you! Guest guest
Hey, I didn't know myself until I had them! Mike's Mom is a twin (she has a fraternal brother). Everybody would kid us and say *Oh, skipped a generation, you're next!*. Of course, at that time I thought it could be true. I just read alot, and it seems like when you have twins, other people love to come up to you and tell you that they are a twin, triplet, etc. For example, did you know that there are 3 different kinds of *identicals*?. There's identical - needs no explanation; nearly identical - when they look alike, but if you look closely there's subtle differences, and Mirror image - that's when one may be left-handed, the other right-handed, or one has a dimple in their left cheek, the other the right cheek.
