Sorry to tell you this , but our children have, throughout history,

been referred to by animal terms. Terms such as " feral man " , " wolf-boy " ,

and the most famous " The Wild Boy of Aveyron " ...awesome reading!!!!! I

compared Victor to my own son in a paper for a college composition

course...the instructor cried. But I ended up loving Victor with all my

heart!

I love that man and what he does for Cure Autism Now!

Sorry, I just had to say that (I feel better)

[ ] ER TONIGHT

Did anyone see ER tonight - now our Autistic children are not human........

I can't recall verbatim, but the doc examining on the show -

said about his brain tumor, " " " We cannot operate, you would lose all

ability to communicate and comprehend - essentially you would lose

everything that makes you human......... "

How nice!

I initially thought the same as you, but the other doctor said " no

communication whatsoever " which I took to mean not just speech but total

inability to understand communication. I think even our lowest functioning

kids have some ability to communicate and there is always hope for

improvement or a new treatment. Dr. Green I believe after the surgury would

be pretty much in a vegetative state - again our kids are from from that!

And before I get too upset I remember it is a tv show...until they have an

autistic child/adult an insult him directly I'll keep watching! (and yes I

remember the homeless artist/architect from several years ago)

-who loves NBC Thursdays-after all, any night that starts out with

Aniston can't be bad!

I think they meant going from being an understanding adult, doctor, etc etc

And losing it all would be no kind of life he would recommend for him.

My father ( physician) was forced to retire after 8 hours of brain surgery

where they repaired 3 brain aneurysms. He can still communicate, and to most

people seems normal. Actually to his friends he's normal. That's the running

joke with everyone around him...he's normal..now. He was so much beyond normal

before, sheer genius!!The fact that he can't remember things like he did before

haunts him. And the fact that he knows that before the surgery he could have

been diving into Autism research to save his grandson, and now he's unable to

do more than read the research I send him and give his opinion as to whether

the treatments are safe, and only do that after reviewing things he once kept

in his head. He feels helpless!! He's been in the depths of depression for

years, and antidepressants give him strange dreams where in one he tackled his

wife and almost killed her. He was sleeping, and dreaming, yet his body still

did what he was doing in his sleep, tackling a football player. His wife's

screaming finally woke him, and now he feels like a mad man.

It's one thing to not have, but to lose what you had, and depended on, that's

devastating.

Just my $0.02

from Kansas here:

Just noticed the thread on ER. Note that there is a difference between not

being able to process out your feelings/needs/etc. and not being able to

process ANYTHING in OR out. Also want to point out that I seem to remember

name in autism conferences, etc. My .02 with 5% annual

interest.

Bye-bye............from Di ;+)

has actually gone to Washington to testify about autism. He is very good friends with Portia Iverson and Shestack, co-founders of CAN! (Cure Autism Now!)

It looks to me like the story line is going to go in the direction of exploring alternative treatments, based on the previews last week.

That Cure Autism Now poster has hung in the ER for some time. It's always fun

to catch a glimpse of it. I also saw some Flutie Flakes in the doctor's lounge

in one episode. I read that is making a tv movie about Temple

Grandin, too.
