POSTED: 6:15 am EST January 25, 2008 MINEOLA, N.Y -- A group of angry parents with children in special education programs are upset with the Governor's budget, which cuts nine million dollars from special ed on Long Island. Ain of Autism United said " parents are mortgaging their houses now to pay for services for their kids and now this cut will make it more difficult. " Some of the programs paid by the state included home care, transportation and even diapers for children who need them. The parents along with state legislators hold a news conference today in Mineola to talk about how the cuts will affect their children. Governor Eliot Spitzer's 124.3 billion dollar budget is about five percent more than last year's budget. State Senator Flanagan of Northport said the governor's cuts are going to shutdown special ed programs in some districts. Because a local school district is responsible for providing an education to all its students, the local districts will be forced to transport children and pay tuition to other districts that have programs. - PHOTOS: http://homepage.mac.com/lighthousestudios/PhotoAlbum47.html
