Guest guest
<<When he was 5 1/2 he started with the Edmark Reading Program (sight reading) and did great with it. Now at age 16 he still has a significant speech delay, but he can communicate to us and uses short phrases as well as " learned " (memorized) sentences. He is quite a good speller and if we can't understand his speech, we ask him to spell the words and then we usually know what he's trying to tell us. Bev>> Hi, Everyone....Bev....this is soooooooooo much like Gareth!!! In 1st grade, he was reading all these sights words, but to this day, can't turn around and say a sentence without 'looking' at the words. So strange....still don't understand it myself!!! > <<For those of you who have kids who already had their tonsils out--how > did they handle it? The IV, meds, eating? >> .....Gareth > never missed a beat!!! He loves the hospital!!! Knows the whole routine > about the gas mask and everything. It's the only place where he can lay in > bed, eat and watch TV!!! He's no dummy!!! He does take pills, so that > wasn't an issue. Never complained about hurting.....never does, though. > He's been under 10 times in his life. Some times I think that's the cause > of the autism. Today I went to Best Buy and bought a small digital voice recorder. It's very basic and easy to use. I'm tired of him coming home and 'telling' me about his day and I don't have a clue what he's saying. I will take it in and give it to his aide and tell her to keep me posted on the days happenings so that I will at least have some clue what went on that day. Take care, Everyone.
