Rox,

Thanks for the info. Since we live on an island- we can go to the beach everyday in the summer if we wanted to- so a beach isn’t too special for my son on a trip. Especially if you compare the ocean waves to a lake. LOL. Also, we are driving from Long Island to Chicago to Minnesota- so I don’t want to go far off the interstate. I remember 2 years ago when we drove to MN there were hotels with water parks right off the highway.

My son LOVES parks, rides, etc. He also loves the pool and I limit it greatly. He’s chelating right now too. We’ll be finished right before the trip (after almost 2 years). Our road trip across the US is going to be about 8-10 weeks- so I really need to find things he likes because the poor kid is going to be spending hours and hours in the car- probably covering about 10,000 miles (I haven’t done the numbers yet). But, I have to keep him motivated.

I agree with the view on chlorine and generally I do limit exposure. When he first started chelating, he was allowed to swim twice in about 8 months. And that was for 2 birthday parties (one was his own). We have unlimited access to an indoor pool- so it was hard to say no day after day.

I also agree with the fear of getting sick- but you can get sick in any public place. People on Long Island got sick or died from eating at Taco Bell last year (don’t remember exactly). So, I can’t be so super careful that my son doesn’t have any fun. He was in the pool a couple of times this summer and didn’t have any external reactions. I also give him an epsom salt bath right after. Also, my son socializes so much at the pool. For an only child with autism- this is invaluable. Also, next on the trip is Park Rapids Minnesota, about 2-3 hrs north of Minneapolis. A place so small you have to drive an hour for a mall or Health Food store. Beautiful lake especially for fishing- but my son gets bored very easily. We’ll be visiting Grandparents and family there.

I don’t do sunscreen at all. We just limit the time he spends in the son. Also, he’s got some Sicilian blood in him- so he doesn’t burn very easily.

I do appreciate the feedback.

well, we cannot avoid a pool in the summer. It is the thing loves to do the most. So I just have to use lots of magnesium sulfate and epson salt baths.on hand. If you are going to Minneapolis-you can get canoes and stuff at Lake Calhoun and Lake of the Isles and there is a boat ride you can get on Lake Harriet. You can also swim in the lakes(altho I can no longer testify to their being clean). maurinechristine <christine@...> wrote: Rox,Thanks for the info. - The one good thing about Great Wolf Lodge is that some of the water park is outdoors so whatever chlorine he did inhale, he could be getting some fresh air by ending up on the slide outdoors. Also, the Dells are great because of all of the rides. If you are leaving Chicago and going to MN via WI that would be perfect as you take I94(?) to get to the westside of the state and Great Wolf Lodge (Dells) are just 20 mi. off that interstate. When I referred to getting sick -- I meant respiratory problems linked to chlorine inhalation. Chlorine is ozone which damages the cardio-pulmonary system. AND -- I know what you mean about not swimming during chelation. The

copper-sulfate inhaled from the swimming pools depletes zinc. Rox OT: Anyone from Wisconsin?

My boys absolutely LOOOOOOOOOOVE water and we ended up buying a pool,

but got a salt system. Electrodes somehow convert the salt into a

form of chlorine but it's much easier on the skin, and you don't have

to use 800,000 chemicals. All we do is put a little bit of salt in

and the computer does the rest. It's pretty much maintenance free.

Doesn't taste like salt water either. I wish public pools would

start using this system.

What kind

of system is it?

I’d like to get a pool eventually.

Odd, I had a hard time finding anything to explain it in a decent

way...... here's what I found:

http://www.custombuiltspas.com/saltwater_systems.htm

Saltwater Sanitizing Systems

For Spas and Pools!

It's Time To Make The Change!

There has been a quiet revolution going on in the pool and spa

industry. You won't hear much about it and you probably won't read

much about it either, not as long as there are profits to be made on

chemicals, but the days of the chemically treated spas and pools, in

this authors mind, are numbered.

Never mind the rising costs for water treatment chemicals, or about

the fact that chemicals like Chlorine and Bromine are toxic and

deadly. Never mind the Government regulators telling us they have

established what they feel are " safe " levels of toxic poisons for us

to consume and be exposed to. I don't know about you but I am NOT

alright with that, at all! And, never mind that our Government seems

to think it's perfectly OK for us to drink water that is treated with

toxic poison to make it sanitary and potable.

People are finally starting to wake up, take a stand and say " enough

is enough " ! We want to be safe and we want our children to be safe as

well and not suffer the long term ill effects of being exposed to

these toxic and deadly poisons, no matter how small the dosage. By the

way, there are a number of documented long term effects that result

from this kind of chemical exposure, but our Government doesn't seem

to be worried, so I guess that means we shouldn't be to worried

either, after all, don't we trust our Government officials not to lead

us astray?

I'm not trying to be an alarmist and I am not a medical professional,

but I do read a lot of medical reports and information on what's

harmful to us as well as tons of information on the subject of water

treatment in my industry. Nobody in this industry will argue against

the fact that chemical free water is the best water for you to be

- We stayed at Timber Ridge in Lake Geneva last summer. A

very nice water park but I was not impressed with the cleanliness of

the hotel or the pool (too many times we had hair on our hands -

ewwwww!!). Don't know that I will go back. We also went on a day

pass to the Blue Harbor Resort in Sheboygan and that's a great water

park. So great that we are going back this weekend to stay at the

resort (before we were renting a house nearby). So I can let you

know about it once we return this weekend if you would like. Not

sure if you will be going that way.

HTH!

We did this in our pool also seven years ago. It costs about $35/year in salt and feels good on the skin andno red eyes. This year we had to replace the main component case which was $385. But that is after seven years of intense AZ sun beating down on it daily.Rox OT: Anyone from Wisconsin?

Plus, I trust the opinions of the parents on this list more than the

corporations who put together the websites. I know the Wisconsin

Dells area has a lot of water parks- especially in the hotels

themselves. Thanks for any feedback.
