Guest guest
Hi Ginny, Welcome to you and your son . On what you had mentioned to similar issues, I can totally relate when my son would be called and everyone and I thought maybe he was deaf as he had alot ear infections. Sure beats wondering also as he is older as one bus driver thought he was from India because he was trying to ask him questions and my son did not respond. My son had snucked onto to a different bus as he is a runner/wanderer and had escaped while the teacher was attending to a wheel chair student. Luckily his teacher had witnessed it, but it was too late to get him as the bus just shut the door and zoomed away. The bus driver had gotten radioed for him to return my son and then a lesson of the day for the bus driver not all non-verbal kids are from other countries. Once again welcome aboard and hope to hear your stories. Hugs. Irma,13,DS/ASD > Hi! I never thought I'd find a group of parents like me. My son > is five, dual diagnosis of Down Syndrome and PDD. Guest guest
Ginny, Your experience with sounds so much like mine with Gabby. She was diagnosed just over a year ago (at 5yo) and has been non-verbal for almost 2 yrs now. She's using PECS and an assistive tech device. I never had much of a problem with ppl thinking she was deaf though. She talked for a while... and hearing tests were all normal. But I have heard that from many parents of kiddos w autism. Welcome to the list. Sandy mom to Gabby (6, ds-asd) and Adam (2) Hello! Let me introduce myself... Hi! I never thought I'd find a group of parents like me. My son is five, dual diagnosis of Down Syndrome and PDD. The Down Syndrome was diagnosed shortly after birth, but the PDD wasn't really diagnosed until he was almost 4. He is non-verbal, and we are doing our best to mainstream him for part of his day with typical children (I so hate to use the word " normal " ....). He is learning PECS, but again, that wasn't started until less than a year ago since we didn't know for the longest time why he didn't talk. He would never turn his head when his name was called, so people thought he was deaf for a while! You have similar experiences? I just wanted to introduce myself, and I'll find the time to explore the site more later. Best wishes, Ginny mother of ,
