Guest guest
Yes, which is why need need Ayoub, Bradstreet, etc. to attend! I don't know how many of you listened to their 2007 autism broadcast, in which it was disclosed that one of their own, Fuller, had a child diagnosed with autism. I didn't see it discussed on any of the boards, but it was a 3-part series. In addition they allowed a parent -Lynn Hamilton-on the show who has apparently either used biomedical and/or blamed vaccines and wrote a book called Facing Autism. Dr. Dobson allowed her book to be sold on the site, even though he said he originally had decided against it because of some " controversial " material. I'm sure those outside the autism community wondered if the mom used curse words or something:) LOL In any case, since I beleive these are GOOD people at heart with a wide audience, we shouldn't give up on them. Keep pushing. I know in my letter I said that I grew up with Focus and felt betrayed & abandoned by them. I offered to send studies to the doctors on staff and was (of course) never taken up on it. But we need to keep trying. So many social changes in this country have come about because of Christians who have fought for them. Kudos to the Methodist church, which has been bold about speaking the truth and fighting for justice in the case of thimerosal. Guest guest
I have written FOF and received a response from one of Dr. Dobson's assistants. It was after, I believe Lynn Hamilton? appeared on the show a few yrs ago. Dr. Dobson was rather offensive in his comments toward Christians who do not immunize. The response was one of not listening at all. Here is the letter I sent him, April 1, 2006: Dr. Dobson Focus on the Family Colorado Springs, CO 80995 Dear Dr. Dobson, I recently was told by several of your listeners that you and the good Dr. Larimore stated those parents who oppose vaccines as " well-meaning, but uneducated and misinformed " . Dr. Dobson, your statement, if given to me correctly, is completely erroneous. I hold an Associates Degree from my local community college, and am currently pursuing a bachelor's of science to work in special education. At the same time I have read a number of books, including the physician's guide to treatment of autism by Defeat Autism Now!, the only real organized medical group dedicated to addressing the medical issues of autism. I regularly (on a weekly basis) read scientific studies, both supporting and warning the use of vaccine. My goal is not to find a desired outcome and focus on that outcome, but rather to read objectively the most current understanding of God's creation, the human body, and how it relates to my daughter's health, whether that supports or does not support the use of vaccines. I care about the truth, not the truth I desire. When my daughter regressed immediately following a hepatitis B vaccine she was given at nine months of age, while recovering from chicken pox and still scabbed over, I did not even remember the vaccine, it was so insignificant. All I knew was that my daughter had become rather ill with chicken pox, began to recover and come back to her old self, then fall completely silent and zone out. It was not until a year later when I pulled Allie's shot record just to see what was there, when the date and memory of the event flooded back to my mind. To be sure I was recollecting the chicken pox episode so close to the vaccine, I pulled her baby book to check the dates. Sure enough, two weeks after the onset of chicken pox, she received this vaccine. Sure enough, she fell silent. The shot was given April 26. Her older sister's birthday party was May 5. I have on videotape the entire group of people, about twenty people, commenting on " how quiet and good " Allie was being, because suddenly gift bows were a two-hour fascination. After this happened and God blessed me with another pregnancy six months after Allie's autism diagnosis, I began to pray about what steps to take to help ensure this baby would be autism-free. I prayed about me eating a gluten/casein-free diet during gestation, if I should keep the baby on a gluten/casein-free diet, how long I should breast-feed my baby, and when or if I should vaccinate. I read Dr. Cave's recommendations on vaccinating, that she suggests waiting until four months and vaccinate slowly. I prayed about this schedule, if that is what The Lord would have me to do, or if He would have me to vaccinate regularly, or if I should vaccinate at all. I also went to the CDC web site and read about each and every disease for which children are vaccinated against. I specifically wanted to know what the symptoms and risks of each disease is, the prevalence of each disease in my region and the United States, and what ways each disease is spread. I then read every package insert for each vaccine, especially noting the levels of thimerosal, as chelation is showing my daughter has high levels of mercury in her little body. I wanted to know what warnings each manufacturer gives for their products, the way the vaccines are administered, how they are to be stored, and mentally noted at pediatrician visits how the nurses were handling the vials lined just behind the nurses' station. I also wanted to know if vaccinating would be 100% protection against a given disease, wondering if the potential risk would really be of significant benefit, realizing the flu vaccine in particular is known to " miss the mark " on occasion. I also read over VAERS data about reports on each vaccine. I then prayed over this information, asking The Lord to make it clear to me His will on the matter. At Dinah's birth, I had decided to refrain from the hepatitis vaccine at twenty-four hours old. I learned that hepatitis B can only be spread through blood-to-blood contact and I did not foresee my newborn having sex or doing IV drugs in the room, especially considering she stayed with me. She did not attend daycare and I was almost always with her in the church's nursery. My husband and I are happy with our marriage of, at the time, eight years, so there was no concern of promiscuity as I nursed our baby. I gave the schedule of Dr. Cave's recommendations to Dinah's pediatrician. The four-month mark came and went. I felt absolutely no peace in vaccinating her. I went back to The Lord time and time again, asking Him to give me peace. I found none until I discussed it with my husband and he said we should not vaccinate her until at least age three, when the risk of autism decreases, the immune system in her would be more mature, and we could see that she would be talking and behaving normally. For the first time, I felt a God-like peace on the matter. My husband's words spoke to both my mind and my soul as if divinely planted. My husband was reading the same information and praying the same concerns that I was. Do I ever get concerned she might contract a disease that a vaccine may have prevented? Yes. When she gets a cough sometimes I think, " What on earth am I doing to her? " Then I feel that familiar tug that I'm doing it for a very good reason. I'm doing it because I researched to the best of my ability, learned everything I could, brought it before The Lord, and asked Him to show me the way with my precious little soul He has allowed me to raise. Is all this well meaning? Without a doubt. It's well meaning, and it's selfish on my part to want my daughter's health and her mind. But is it uneducated and misinformed? Hardly. I would venture to state that I know far more about the risks and benefits of vaccines than most medical doctors. I say that not out of arrogance, but out of the fact that every time I have taken my specific concerns to my pediatrician, he or she cannot answer me with facts, studies, or other medical documentation. They do answer me with evasive thoughts, " Well, it doesn't matter that the fact sheet says not to vaccinate when they're sick, " or " Oh, we can't check titer levels, they don't matter… " . And my favorite, " It doesn't really matter that aborted fetal cells are used to produce the that vaccine, they were aborted years ago. " Dr. Dobson, I am a huge fan of yours and hold immense respect for you. I am constantly recommending your books to others and so enjoy hearing your words of wisdom. But I urge you as my Christian Brother and respected elder to rethink your statements on those of who choose to refrain from vaccinating our children. I urge you to retract your statement that we are misinformed and uneducated. State that you philosophically disagree, but do not make a statement as untrue as that of me being misinformed or uneducated. In fact, I would be willing to bet a spot on your show that I can out-discuss you or Dr. Larimore on factual, medical evidences both supporting and challenging vaccine safeties. I venture to state that I am more informed, more educated, and more knowledgeable about vaccine that you could even imagine, because I've had to be. I say it not as arrogance or attempts to fluff my ego, but to show you just how wrong your thoughts about me are. Believe me, I haven't wanted to know one iota of this stuff. But it's what we responsible parents do for our children's health and future. Guest guest
I, too, wrote FoF after Lynn Hamilton's appearance on a radio show several years ago, and received a form letter response. They didn't even acknowledge the TOPIC I'd written about. They are among many Christian groups who have their hands over their collective ears, screaming, " LA LA LA LA LA LA LA " to block out any pleas from parents of vaccine-injured children to please read the studies and listen to our stories. Very disappointing attitude from them, that's for sure. Penny > > I have written FOF and received a response from one of Dr. Dobson's > assistants.
