Hi Gail, I couldn't tell you what was accomplished because I was never sent this exhibit A. I am so sick of fighting with the school. A can't believe all this time just for a touch screen for . What's the big deal? I wonder if all this stress we go through is really worth the effort. Charlyne Mom to Zeb 9 DS/OCD ?

Not when I know I have the ability and time to keep Seth home from school, and that he wouldn't even notice he wasn't going. I hated to send Zeb to school today not knowing what it was. He insisted going this morning. He loves the kids and is really isolated where we live. I don't really have much time to homeschool him but I would find the time and make due. We always manage to get everything done that we have to somehow. It may not always be the best but we still get the job done. I have no idea how you homeschool your girls. I give you a lot of credit. Did you always homeschool them? What made you decide to do this? Sorry for all the questions. I am a nosey thing, huh. Charlyne Mom to Zeb 9 DS/OCD ?

We more or less fit schooling around our life, not the other way around. I didn't homeschool the older girls. The younger ones have never gone to school. There are pros and cons to everything and homeschooling is no different. Lately, it seems there are more cons! LOL I think it's because we are so close to the years end and we are all ready for the break. We have to do double time this week to play catch up because of dh. Don't give me so much credit. It's just something we started out doing and kept going. If I had known 7 years ago that it would get this hard, I wouldn't have started! LOL Many a day have I welcomed the thought of the girls going to school. LOL Usually after the day is done and all the school stuff is around the whole house, art stuff drying on the tables and no housework done. You're not nosy, you're curious. I am so sick of fighting with the school. Oh Charlyne, How very frustrating what you are going through, even with an attorney involved, still no solution. That is a crime shame to the school district. The key here is what is the most appropiate educational setting for each individual child. You already know that Zeb has a legal right to be in that classroom and wanted to do everything possible to make it a less stressful situation for everyone. [You're an effective parent prepared and knowledgeable. The strength of our ability to advocate for our child comes from love, commitment, and being informed. Many school professionals welcome parental involvement. Others feel we are invading their territory. Many educators view parents as angry, pushy and overbearing, or apathetic and uncooperative. Yet many of today's programs would still be dreams if it hadn't been for some " pushy " persevering parent. Today we have laws on our side, but some of the same old battles. What we accomplish will depend on how well we work together. We need to learn to be assertive without antagonizing and triggering hositility. We need to practice keeping calm and listening to others. We need to know our priotities so we don't waste precious time and energy on unimportant little skirmishes.]In brackets are a few words of what a parent wrote from a book Challenged Parenting: " The Educational Engima " by Bonnie Wheeler. I could go on with this chapter but one of the reason I wrote this is because its just a reminder why you're doing this. Most services for our children wouldn't exist today if other parents hadn't struggled for them. Many hugs. Irma,13,DS/ASD

Sometimes we take the whole month of Dec. off just to have fun baking and shopping. This year I just made each quarter 11 weeks long instead of 9 and we take off a day whenever we want to do something fun or need a break. We schooled year round for a couple of years. That way we only did a couple hours each day. Here we have to do at the least, 900 hours and 180 days. When the girls were younger, I spent most of my time actually working with them. Now I spend more time preparing. Heck, we even do lessons in the car going to and from all their activities. I usually take a couple weeks in the summer and write their curriculum, break it down into weeks, then break it down to day by day. I make a book that tells me exactly what we will do each day, what materials I need, and how many hours we need to work that day. That's a lot of work to do at once, but it makes the year run smooth. Between the two girls we put in a lot of hours at different lessons. They take Polish language lessons, choir, piano, organ, dance, voice, brain buzz at the library and gymnastics. We do lots of field trips. I count all that time towards their needed school hours. I have one girl that is very easy to teach, loves to learn and does very well. The other girl is very slow, has NO memory so has trouble with everything and would just rather play all day. (just like her Mother at that age)! So, I work with that. We make playing and cleaning part of school. She may have to pick up all her Beanie Babies, so I give her a graph and tell her as she puts them away to count and graph them by color, size or species. Might not be the traditional way to teach, but it's how I get things across to her. I have learned more, teaching my girls, than I ever did in school. And no, I am NOT organized!!!!!! LOL If I didn't make my book with what we do each day, I could NEVER homeschool. I can't even find a shoe lace, if I need one, around here. LOL I'm sure that anyone that needs or wants to homeschool could do it. Just takes a little time and effort to get started. Oh, and a LOT of space to store all the materials! LOL Okay, this post was way to long. Must be feeling good today! LOL Gail :-)
Guest guest
Hi Gail, Thanks for telling me about your homeschooling, wow. I think I could do it. I spend most days doing the same after Zeb comes home from school anyway. Everything we do is a lesson. I wonder how much they actually teach him or how I actually contribute to his learning progress. I am not very organized but more so with Zeb's school things. I am not concerned about the space constraints. We have plenty of room to do almost anything. How is dh? Charlyne Mom to Zeb 9 DS/OCD ? Guest guest
Another thing i did when i homeschooled i found using a homschoooling organizing disk it was wonderful, and i still have it somewhere, it keeps track of everything you put in it! and I printed off each month at a time and wrote on the pages any changes made and put them in a BIG three ring notebook, with any worksheets or painting whatever in their sections too, UIHC use to love my records!!! i even have an IEP type of book for homeschoolers of special ed kids, its great!! and she is right too you can make any activity into learning ones, we often schooled year round too took off middle of dec. to middle of jan. as holidays. Heck even hanging out laundry is educational, you can go over clothing names, words, counting shirts or pants etc or even clothes pins, having them hand you a certain number of them they have to count out and they make colored ones too that are plastic i think. Nahtan learned all his self hlep and independence skills the two years we home schooled him, would have continued but we moved back home where we have a pretty great school system (soo far), but they know i wont hesitate to pull him and usually listen to my demands. I will keep pryaing hard for some answers to come to you. shawna.
