Guest guest
Neurotherapy is used to help balance the brain so it will work more efficiently. I was drawn to it because they first do a full assessment including a QEEG to see how well the brain is functioning now. Then they are able to use that data to develop an individual treatment plan based on the assessment. Treatment looks different based on your assessment results. For my son, the majority of his treatment is watching videos on a computer while listening to modulated music in earphones. " electrodes " are attached to his head which gather data on his brain activity. It affects how the video behaves on the screen. He learns to self-correct using that information. I believe the electrodes also send some signals that train the brain as well. I have seen very good results with this treatment for my autistic son who had severe aggression and SIB. Other treatments have been important as well but this is the one that stabilized his behavior and increased his availability for learning. People are continually commenting on how " he's like a different kid " . And they mean it as a huge compliment. Needless to say my life has improved as well. I'm not holding him down, he's excelling at school, he goes to sleep pretty well, etc etc. Do some searches for neurofeedback and autism. Our doctor is associated with Crossroads Institute. http://www.crossroadsinstitute.org/home.html They are not a perfect organization (a bit disorganized and very expensive). But their success with autistic kids is pretty impressive. Maybe there's other groups that do this too? I really want to get the word out on this. My son was a poor responder to so many treatments (meds, GFCF, etc) but neurotherapy (and ABA) really worked. Jill
