Guest guest
Lots of us have had low red count during tx - your doctor can prescribe something like Procrit which will bring your red count up but there's nothing that will help the platelets(white cells). He'll probably lower your dosage for a while or take you off tx for a couple of weeks. Don't worry, it's happened to a lot of us. I never had that problem. I didn't respond at all but one or more of the other "Dummies" will tell you what happened to them - Llinda, De, chime in here. So my doctor is re-doing the blood, but he said he might take me off it for a week , then put me back on a lower dose. Any advice?? Did this happen to anyone else. I've been feeling pretty good. Yesterday was kind of crappy, and I sleepy today, but nothing major. Guest guest
Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Don't give him any more ideas! He likes to bite more than toes, I have a scar on my wrist from him attacking my feet & both my hands when he was just a baby. I figured it was testosterone poisoning so I had him fixed & he hasn't done that again. He does like to bite feet for no reason. Someday I'll finally get my brother over here to take some pics so you guys can see how he's grown. A giant furball, should've named him Tribble - he looks like one of the bigger ones but there was a Tribble living next door & when he was small SpYke didn't look like one. Guest guest
My insurance wouldn’t let me have Epogen because it was “off label use for Hep C”, so what my doc & I did, was keep me on full doses & check my blood every week to be sure I wasn’t getting into the danger zone. Thankfully, I hovered just above the point where we had to decrease my dose of anything. My doc & I had constant open dialog about my feelings toward tx – that I did not want to give up after coming so far and that the only way I would voluntarily give up would be if it was going to cause me financial ruin (lose my job, house, etc). Ask your doc if adding an iron supplement would help any. Generally iron isn’t good for our livers, but it might be the lesser of 2 evils to be able to continue treatment. I don’t know about the white count, but talk to your doc and tell him you don’t want to reduce your doses and what else can you try first. Guest guest
Hi everyone!!! Thanks for all the good advice. I'm going to print it all out for my doc Moday and hopefully he can put it all together. I'm still feeling a little fuzzy today. I was supposed to dive tonight, but I'm going to sit this one out , stay at home and play catch up on my stuff here. ( I hate not diving...it's almost the end of lobster season) Hope everyone has a great weekend!! Guest guest
Hi Rich, Sorry about that, I'm always getting those two confused, white cells & platelets I mean. My white cells are fine, it's my platelets that are low & that's what causes the bruising & bleeding. It's also the one that there's no med to fix it. Sorry guys, yet another brain fog moment. Guest guest
Hi Kat, I am in week 16 of treatment. My RBC went way down and my dose was lowered for 1 month and I was put on Procrit. It has gotten back up within normal range and I am back on my regular dose. I still take the Procrit and everything seems to be going okay so far.
