I hope I didn't come off sounding like people on welfare should not get care. I just think it is so unfair that people who work their butts off and really sacrifice can't get any help. My friend lives with a guy who makes a decent amount of money. She is able to collect welfare because she lies and says he is just her roommate (he's more than that). Her welfare check is spending money. She guys clothes, gets her nails done... Her medical and dental care is free. I know that there are many people on welfare who really need it. But when I see people abuse it, it makes me so mad. I feel like I am being punished for trying to do the right thing. I luckily was able to get a great, inexpensive medical plan for my kids because we met income requirements. It is a plan for working familles that don't have coverage. I am so thankful for that, but come August I will lose it because I work nights to help make ends meet. Now we are over the income requirements! We don't live extravagantly! A lot of our money goes towards putting the two of us through college (my hubby and I). I figure if we hang on until we both graduate, things will get better... Gee, sorry to vent again! I'll drop this now!

People who abuse it drive me nuts because it takes away from people who really need the help. Of course I don't think differently of you! I was mainly venting about people like my sister in law, who collected checks for 7 years while living with a guy who made 40,000 a year. Or people like my friend who uses her check to get manicures. You are feeding your children and that is nothing to be ashamed of! Plus, you are working so hard on your website and to get into the military. I really admire that. I got WIC when my daughter was a baby. I know what you mean about people looking at you funny. I now am a cashier at a grocery store and I make sure to be extra kind to people with WIC or food stamps because I know how embarrassing it can be! Guest guest
Coming from someone who is currently " in " the system. No, I don't mind you all talking about it, and right now the only way we live is by welfare. Well, we don't actually get money from welfare. The only thing we get is food stamps and Medicaid for the boys. Even with our income from online we don't make enough to get off of it. (That's another reason I want to go into the Marines) I am the only person in the household that doesn't have any insuance at all. Mike gets VA benifits from being in the military and the boys have Medicaid. I actually have two cavities and I can't do anything about them until I go to boot camp in May and they have a dentist there look and fix them. I can't stand hearing stories about people who abuse the system and I know that if we didn't have food stamps we wouldn't be able to eat every month. You are doing what you have to do for yourself and your family and you are taking steps to get a career. That is what matters. Elena
Guest guest
Re: Ouch and a brag OT Who hopes no one thinks differently of her now. , Of course nobody will think differently of you now. There are people on welfare who truly need the assistance and it sounds like you are definitely one of those people. It's nothing to be ashamed of, especially since you are using the money to help feed your family. Thanks for your honesty and for showing us that there are people who use the system for what it was intended and don't abuse it.
Guest guest
, of course we don't think any differently of you now!!! welfare is made to help people out in tough times, not a way of life! there is nothing wrong with you getting assistance, that is what it is there for!!!! it is the people that don't care, and have no intention of getting off that are wrong!! ~Nicci >From: " ** " <mmgraves@...> >Reply-tae-bo_onegroups ><tae-bo_onegroups> >Subject: Re: Ouch and a brag OT >Date: Fri, 18 Feb 2000 16:49:56 -0500 > >Coming from someone who is currently " in " the system. Reply-to: tae-bo_onegroups >> Hey , I just thought of something. Since you were insured before under your husbands previous job....can you get with that company again and continue the insurance privately.....maybe just for a little while? :-) They could just continue your policy like a renewal instead of having to go through a whole 6 month ordeal. Also ask your dentist about a temporary crown...one that could get you through that 6 months at a lower price. Your right to be mad about people who abuse the welfare system. Those are the type of people who prevent the real people from getting help when they need it. My sister-in-law is almost debilitated by Lupas and my brother has to take a low paying yet flexible job ( he works for our family business) to take care of her and their three kids. They cant get any help. I dont think the answer is plugging more money into the system though because that will mean higher taxes and pushing even more people below poverty level. I could go on..but wont Who is really happy this saturday evening.....heee heeee
