omething I didn't mention earlier about SP's lowfat thing --from what I understand 30% is supposed to be an average after combining all the food you eat in a meal or in a day. If you only eat foods that are UP TO 30% fat, then most of the foods you eat will be less than that and you could end up with as low as 5% fat for the whole day. I did this once and it wasn't smart. fortunatley it was for a very short time or I could have made myself very sick.

Really? Really really? Rea...ok I won't go on with that..but actually I started doing the formula for the days that I actually wrote down what I ate for the day. After eating for the entire day I was still under a total percent of 20%. Even though I had ate a few things that were over 30% in that specific item. So I shoudln't do that thing where I end up with all food under 20% right?

Diets are SO confusing!!

i'm confused!! i don't think i am eating very much fat and i thought it was

a good thing??? i feel great!! can someone please tell me why i have to

eat fat? this is what i usually eat every single day (i know it is boring

to eat the same thing, but i'm going to keep eating it until i get sick of

it cuz i HATE cooking and it is simple!)

breakfast: i either have wheaties with banana and skim milk or 2 apples

lunch: ham and cheese sandwich, pretzels (i only eat lunch about every other

day, because sometimes i am not hungry)

dinner: stirfry (one of the ones that comes with the chicken already in it)

and if i am hungry later on at night, i have a fruit smoothie that is made

of pineapple juice, apple juice, banana, blueberries, fat free cool whip...

i have one of them probably 3 or 4 times a week

i drink 8 glasses of water... i FORCE myself to do it... it is getting

easier but still is hard!

when i finish drinking my water i reward myself with a glass of gingerale

(my favorite!) and i have a glass of milk with dinner

Luci, I totally agree. That's what I meant when I said that I totalled

my fat up at the end of the day, rather than checking each individual

food. (I forget who it was that asked weren't the two the same, eating

all foods under 30% and calculating it at the end of the day). My

thought was that if you only eat foods under 30%, you may be depriving

yourself. I'm sure that I was eating certain things that might have

been over 30%, but at the end of the day, it all averaged out to be

under 30%. My point being that it's ok to eat some things that might

be a little more than 30% fat...don't deprive yourself just trying to

eat only foods that are under 30%.

I'll bet you are around 5% fat in your diet or less. You will age faster, your skin, hair and nails will dry out/lose elasticity (and veins), and your memory might not be so good if you keep this up for too long. You will probably reach a point where you can't make it throught the day without a nap, even though you feel great most of the time. Your body can't store or use fat-soluble vitamins and your body can't process many other nutrients without the fat-soluble vitamins. Low fat is usually good because most fat is non-nutritive, but this is extreme. Add some olive oil or flax seed oil or try some omega-3 fatty acid supplements, but get some fat in there. Make yourself some chocolate chip soy cookies with real butter.

If you have been doing this for years and have never had a problem, ignore me.

does anyone have a list of the foods that have " good fat " ??

most fat is added in cooking and then should be olive oil or cannola oil.

Try olive oil and balsamic vineagar on your salads.

Even if good oils avoid frying foods.

Foods with fats that should still be eaten regularly are fish (especially

salmon, sardines, and tuna) and nuts/seeds (especially almonds and walnuts).

Avoid or reduce portions of saturated fats in meats, mayo, butter, dairy,

salad dressings, shortening, and hydrogenated vegetable oils (trans fats).

Become a label reader looking for especially monounsaturated fat (olive oil)

and polyunsaturated fat like cannola oil but avoid other vegetable oils

especially if hydrogenated. You will not believe how 2 different cans of soup

can vary in fats till you read it with your own eyes.

Flaxseed oil which has properties similar to fish (fatty omega acids) can be

taken as a supplement on salads and in shakes but needs refrigeration

Barb

who has cut down on especially on meat portions and butter
