I would want to know who his aides are and who was with him every minute of the day. Doesn't he have a one on one with him all day?

major rip in pants

Hello, I was just wanting some feedback on a situation. What would anyone here think about or do if their 12 year old non-verbal child with Autism came home from school with a gaping 6 inch hole all along the crotch area? School is saying nothing nor the superintendent. There has been no explanation for this happeneing and there is no logical explanation for it at all. Everyone I know has racked their brains. His pants were perfect when he went to school. Just wondered what anyone else outside of our situation would think about this.

Thanks.

I wouldn't worry about it too much my now 12 year old son came home in 5th grade like that one day and I said what happened and he said he didn't know it just split. Come to find out he had been aggressively scratching this area and it opened up a little whole and as he walked the hole just got bigger. He didn't think to tell anybody cause he just doesn't do those things.

I don't think it is anything happening to him, heck he wouldn't of even told me but I saw it and asked.

Have you spoken to the bus driver ? I can understand your worry, but think how you would approach it if he came home with a rip by his knee or elbow. Unless they're all asleep at his school, someone shoud be able to at least tell you, "well, it wasn't ripped before he went to OT, but it was ripped after recess. " That would at least give you a starting point. Look into it, but try not to worry, I find that my boys eat through their pants left and right, and yes, even by the crotch (usually one of them has moved in some odd way and pulled out several stitches, leaving a hole behind). The only reason I can think of why the school wouldn't know of anything would be if it happened on the bus. Has he torn his clothes on the bus before ? Are any of the kids on the bus aggresive enough that one of them could have torn his pants ? If you really can't get any answers, you may want to check with other parents in his class/bus to see if they've

dealt with anything similar.Good luck, and try not to worry.-Alyssa >> Hello, I was just wanting some feedback on a situation. Well, the school has come back saying that we sent him to school this way. That

is their insane excuse and answer for all of this. Now what???

We are so upset we cannot even see straight.

Not really surprised though.

OMG...how frustrating.

Well, I guess it depends on how far you intend to take this. Who at the

" school " is saying this...you can work your way up the chain of command until

you get to the top, and let them know you are concerned enough to file a police

report or contact press if you are not taken more seriously. Does your son ride

the bus, or if not, is there another area that may have been videotaped to

support either of your sides of the story? The school should be willing to look

if they really believe what they're telling you. Where I live the busses all

have cameras, and most of the hallways in the school do as well.

Do you believe the school ? If you do, I guess that means your starting point is

the morning bus driver and /or matron...

what type of pants was he wearing? something easy to rip or that possibly had a

little tear/hole in it? If you can eliminate the school/bus as a cause, I can

think of two things that happen 1)Your son is at the age where, for lack of a

better term....touching himself in that area begins to be a fascination for him.

He may have torn the pants himself. My son has done such things.

2)sometimes it's only the fact that he may have gotten a little tear on his

pants (or shirt) and they just pull at it until it becomes a big tear/hole.

Actually tearing shirts has become a major behavior problem at my house and I'm

at a loss what to do about it.

I would also ask the school to notify you immediately if he comes to school with

ripped clothes or rips them at school.

Hi Im new here, but I myself would be requesting a video servalience and to

see the tapes if they already have it. I would def be calling a lawyer. In your

childs IEP does it state that they at school can use restraint? and secluesion?

If they dont give you the info call the attorney general for yr state. My

yougest son is also nonverbal and these situations scare the crap out of me. I

dont believe anything they tell me, you cant!
