Guest guest
- You need to contact you state child's welfare agency or whatever they are called in your area - Private insurance will not pay for residential treatment because private insurance does not cover room and board for this - MediCAL is the equivalent of what I'm assuming is Medicaid in other states. Guest guest
Aside from all the other things - have you considered putting her in an ocd inpatient for a few weeks - by the time she'd be done with that she may be well enough to have more options available to her. > > Well, here it is...a week later and is still in the hospital with no > where to send her yet. Guest guest
Something that I've heard for people who have private insurance to get their kids into residential is to place their child in the facility as " a family of 1. " After thirty days, public funding is supposed to take over. I really don't know the specifics of how this works. No one ever seems to be able to or want to explain it. But we were told that by using this the parents are not giving the child up to the state. But how this works could vary from state to state. Can you contact your local or state chapter of NAMI (stands for something like National Alliance on Mental Illness) to see if someone there can help you with this or at least refer you to someone else who can help? The national NAMI website is www.nami.org. You can go to that website to find your local and state chapters. Good luck. I know that this is very, very frustrating and overwhelming at a very difficult time. Guest guest
Yes they are supposed to pay for residential with AB3632......but never in the IEP meeting was it mentioned that either my private ins. or MediCal was supposed to pay the medical part of it. I only found this out when I started making calls to these residential facilities. Had they mentioned in the IEP meeting that almost ALL of these facilities only accept MediCal.....I would have at least had the time to see if she's even eligible for MediCal. Now, it's going to take at least 4-6 weeks to get an answer. I went to the MediCal office yesterday to fill out the paperwork but I certainly can't have stay in the hospital until we get an answer. The answer may even be no the lady said. She said if she is eligible though that there would be a shared expense on my part because has a savings account with money that she made in acting from the age of 4-12...and they may also take into account my husbands income even though he is not 's father. So it's not looking good. In a message dated 2/23/2006 5:07:56 A.M. Pacific Standard Time, @... writes: , I only have a minute but ((hugs))! Guest guest
Yes, I think MediCal is the same as Medicaid. I went to the MediCal office yesterday and they determined that actually does have income which may be one reason that she wouldn't qualify. They consider the $300 a month child support I get for her as well as the social security check I get for her every month through a disability that I have. (This check has nothing to do with any kind of disability that she may have....only the disability that I have.) But because it is intended as income on her behalf, it also counts toward her income. And along with that, has a savings account (that she can't touch until she's 18)...money she made from acting.....they also count that though. And like I told in her email....they said they may still count my husbands income....even though he's not 's father....as well. And this will all take time she said....at least 4-6 weeks, maybe longer. As far as being in the hospital as all this is processed....you would think this would be a good thing. But as I'm finding out from several places....it's actually hindering placement. Two places now have denied her because she has been in the hospital for this long. Even when I try to explain to them that it is MY decision to hold her in the hospital....and it's NOT because she's a threat to herself in any way....they still don't care. They just call it " a red flag " . Unbelievable huh? In a message dated 2/23/2006 5:31:26 A.M. Guest guest
I don't think the schools are aware of this. In our case, I decided I wanted my daughter in residential and made all the arrangements and then took it back to the school. They then picked up the tab (by law) for her education expenses. Medicaid as some changes that they didn't have years ago in place. The states have their own " supplememental " criteria for qualifying and in a lot of states the income limits are more relaxed than before. The fact that she has a diagnosis also will hopefully help. Medicaid can be granted under many different circumstances - disability, low income, etc etc... Actually 4-6 weeks isn't all too long - here there are people who wait up to 6 months AFTER the initial review (90 days) of eligibility. How is doing? Anything new going on with the medication? Any new changes?
