Guest guest
Hi and welcome!!! Sorry to hear about your daughter. I live in NY State therefore I might not be able to recommend any psychologist or counselor, however if you go to the OCF site they have a list. Our daughter who's 11 is also mild right now and she goes to counseling. We are not sure yet if her counselor is the right one and will give it a few more weeks to see what happens. Our daughter has been able to fight some of the OCD symptoms after I started reading Tamar C. book, which is a great resource, and started going to counseling. Her counselor is doing CBT with her but not all the times and that's what worries me. I hope you can find some parents on this site that can help. Good luck, Stefi. Guest guest
Hello, We're new to this group and after reading a few digests of daily mail I have to say my heart goes out to all of you who are working so hard for your children and to the children who are suffering so much. My 13 year old daughter seems to have a fairly mild case of ocd but it is still taking its toll on her. We are looking for a good counselor or psychologist who can provide a diagnosis and is effective with using CBT and ERP. She was seeing a counselor last year but after several weeks of talking sessions I realized we were wasting our time. Our friends and doctors have no suggestions for local psychologists. Can any of you suggest a good child psychologist in California? We are in the Central Valley, and are reasonably close to the San Francisco Bay Area and Sacramento. Or, how do you go about finding someone? Do you just use trial and error when you don't have recommendations? Thank you for any help you can give. Guest guest
Could someone look on the list for me? I live in Phoenix/sdale, Arizona. I do not want to wait 6 weeks. I need a therapist for my 9 year old daughter. Thank you! Re: Re: finding a psychologist Hi, It takes the OCD foundation takes about 6 weeks to send the info w/ OCD specialists. I wish they would expedite the process. What state/area do you live in? I'll look on the list and give you the names of specialists in your area. m_and_j_mom <m_and_j_mom@...> wrote: I'm new to this group and have been very enlightened by what I've read so far (although a bit overwhelmed by email at this point). My husband and I also have concerns about how to find the right person to work with our son. He is 7, and we've seen several therapists so far but no one that is an " OCD specialist " . I've heard that the OCD Foundation has a list or recommendations, but I've sent email requesting info with no response back. Any suggestions? in NW FL. " These were listed for your area. In our area, a lot of these doctors are experienced with OCD and ERP/CBT therapy. Call and ask. We didn't have luck with one of the OCF-listed therapists and we were referred by a hospital to this web site and found one we're very happy with. I also wonder if you could email Rochester Mayo specialists and see if they could recommend anyone in your area: Abramowitz.@... or Whiteside.@... (these are from the OCF listings.) Good luck! Guest guest
Dear There is a OCD program at Shands Hospital(Brain Institute) in Gainesville. Phone 352-846-1456, 352392-3641. Perhaps they can advise you someone in your area as they see patients from the panhandle etc. We see Dr. and Dr. Wayne Goodman. in FL > > From: " m_and_j_mom " <m_and_j_mom@...> > Date: 2006/01/03 Tue AM 07:37:42 EST > > Subject: Re: finding a psychologist > > Thanks for helping. I need a therapist for my 9 > year old daughter. Thank you! I can recommend you our psychologist. He has been working with my 12 year-old son (moderate to severe OCD symptoms) since October and we've had some success (no medication so far). I wasn't able to find anyone who specializes in OCD in Phoenix, but Dr. Weissman has worked with many OCD patients and you don't have to wait for weeks for an appointment. According to some of the best child psychologists in the valley (we've seen three so far), it is very hard to find a good OCD therapist in the Phoenix area (they couldn't recommend anyone). Children and Adult Psychological Services, 1351 N. Alma School Rd, #250, Chandler, AZ 85244. www.capsllc.com. Dr. Weissman is a clinical psychologist. Phone 480 - 491-7048 Hope this helps. na
