Guest guest
Our school has been pretty good. At first we were excusing him. The teachers and counselor knew what was going on. But the assistant principal didn't. The policy is after 10 absences from a class you lose credit. When we were approaching that we had a meeting with the asst. principal and all teachers. Our therapist was at the meeting via phone. It helped a lot. We decided to start not excusing him, knowing they weren't going to not give him credit. BUt they did start giving him detentions for missing. THerapist wanted that and it worked for a while. But when he was admitted to partial hospitalization for the last 3 weeks of school they waived the remaining detentions. We had an attendance hearing for him at the end of the semester and they granted him credit because it is a medical condition. Having that meeting with the therapist and the asst prinicipal before we reached the limit made all the difference. Some classes didn't even require him to do the final when he was in the hospital. I'd say be up fron with the discipline administrator and have your therapist explain the situation to them. Get them to see it as a medical issue. Any other questions? I'd be glad to help. > > > I am wondering how your school is handling the absence issue, are you having > any trouble there? My daughter has missed 21 days since the end of Sept.
