Guest guest
Dear Members, You have all been a great source of info and help...Does anyone know if there is a JRA foundation of any sort and any chapters in NY Thanks ... Guest guest
Nick, The nearest arthritis foundation to me is in Syracuse.I am not aware of any JRA foundations. If I find out anything I will let you know. Where in NY are you ? We are in Rome. Teri
Guest guest
Nick - Arthritis Foundation Home Page -http://www.arthritis.org You might give this site a try. You can search the Chapter Directory (under Tools) to find a chapter or branch near you. There are several chapters and branches in NY. Also, there is a council within the Arthritis Foundation known as AJAO which exists to support both children with JRA (and other rheumatic illnesses) and their parents. There are AJAO support groups within some of the local chapters as well. AJAO also has yearly conferences for families, either national or regional (the national conference was in Orlando this year). Type " AJAO " under Keyword and that should get you there. Hope this helps a little. Joan
Guest guest
I'd like to post something here that I found on Lipoic Acid, and posted elsewhere. I'd caution parents of AUTISTIC CHILDREN to not use ALA or LA (same thing) without the guidance of someone experienced in chelating children. NEVER use LA as the first line of chelation for children in whom there is even a remote chance of mercury toxicity. This is a quote from: Toxicology and Applied Pharmacology 1992 May;114(1):88-96 Effect of lipoic acid on biliary excretion of glutathione and metals. Gregus Z, Stein AF, Varga F, Klaassen CD Department of Pharmacology, University Medical School of Pecs, Hungary. pages 89-96 Bottom of page 91- last paragraph: " The effect of LA (lipoic acid) injected at 1 minute after administration of Hg, MM (methylmercury), Cd, Zn and Cu on the tissue distribution of these metals at the end of the 3-hr bile collection is shown in Table 1. Alteration of tissue distribution of metals in response to LA was different for each metal examined. Zn concentrations in tissues were minimally influenced by LA administration. In contrast, extensive changes in tissue distribution of Cu and Hg were observed. LA decreased Hg levels in the kidney (i.e. the organ accumulating Hg most abundantly), intestine and fat while increasing concentrations of Hg in blood, brain, lung, heart, muscle and liver...(I omitted a sentence about Cu) (article continued to page 92 just below gragh) Less extensive changes in tissue distribution of MM and Cd were noted in LA injected rats. However, the altered distribution of these two metals is also characterized with reduced concentrations in tissues which avidly concentrate metals (blood, spleen, and kidney in the case of MM; liver in the case of Cd) and concomitantly increased metal concentrations in some other tissues, such as brain and muscle for MM and kidney and muscle for Cd. " Page 91 also has a table on: Effect of Lipoic Acid on tissue Distribution of Metals; Various tissues are along one side with the various Metals across the top with columns for LA and C (the control substance). So using DMSA or DMPS first to clear the body of mercury before using LA is wise, but at what point do you know ALL the mercury is out of everywhere else and not going to get sent to the brain instead? I've read that most of you are using urine tests, yet most mercury is eliminated via the bowels, some of it is also reabsorbed from the bowels. I'm still reading and looking for answers in this area. I want to make sure I'm only helping my child, not accidentally making him worse. If any of you can point me to articles that explain how to keep from having the mercury reabsorbed and/or sent to brain I want to read them. (I've looked at several hundred abstracts now and read around 30 full text articles with no luck.) Guest guest
Hi Everyone, To get rid of parasites do you have to eat fresh pumpkin seeds or could you eat pumpkin seeds from the snack bags that you can get at a grocery store. Every since I heard about pumpkin seeds killing parasites I figured that you have to get the seeds fresh out of the pumpkin or go to a health food store and get them in capsules or whatever. Could someone send me some information? Thanx in advance. Claude
Guest guest
Great info Robin!! Different types of parasites call for different treatments. This is what I am learning. Right now I am on a raw pineapple diet (tapeworms don't like bromelain) in hopes to rid myself of what I believe is a tapeworm (s) " hanging " around in my small intestines. I am also drinking crampbark tea as well as senna leaf tea. I found that drinking senna leaf tea was what allowed those " ropies " to be freed. Also taking Coenzyme Q10, which is supposed help rid tapeworms. I stopped taking large doses of pumpkin seeds, but I may have to try that again. I am looking for " meliae " seeds...wondering if anyone knows where to find them. Apparently they paralyze the parasite for 8hrs so you can flush them out with herbal laxitives before it regains control. --- Wondering how Lenny is doing...any luck? --- About nutrition...Robin, you must be talking about " raw " milk, because pasterized dairy milk is a major cause of osteoporosis. Olive oil (olive leaf extract is good at keeping herpes at bay) is very beneficial, however I wouldn't consider it a good source of EFA of linoleic acid and linolenic acid. Pumpkin seeds and flax seeds are an excellent source, but Hemp oil or borage oil is also a good source of GLA, so the conversion is already done... I too have suffered with herpes since I was 4 years old. Knock on wood, I believe I have beaten it, but I guess we will see when I start taking those large doses of pumpkin seeds... --- ....and that's my 2 cents. Guest guest
Hi Ellen, I'm here. Just spring cleaning and trying to stream line things so I'm not on the computer all day long. I am still doing well. Don't be hard on yourself, just eat your small meals 6 times a day. Do your breathing and be happy in your body. My daughters went to their Granny's for a few days. My oldest has been doing Life Lift with me, she has asthma and gains weight very easily. She and I have been working out together. She had finally gotten her fat off and was in the normal child range and was finally able to be active without it hurting her. In just four days at Granny's house she gained 12 pounds! Granny insists that she eat 3 large meals a day even though I asked her to feed the kids 6 small meals a day. Take the same amount of food and divide it up into 6 meals. Granny said she didn't have time for that. So, my kids came back home on the heavy side. My husband even noticed the difference. Clothes that fit when they went, didn't fit when they came home. They were active, roller blading in the driveway, kid stuff. This really brought it home to me how important small meals more often is. ~Karma http://loaves-n-fishes.com My on-line health food store with over 200 manufacturers, and over 5,000 products! http://www.karma.awarenesshealth.com Awareness Products, parasite and colon cleanses, Mediterranean botanicals http://www.andale.com/gallery?cid=6262336 & mid=1 & pId=2 Current auctions on e-bay Re: Digest Number 612 Lizh, how do you do some many life lifts? Guest guest
Hi Karma, This message is great. Hopefully it should be a real eye opener to many who have not yet grasped the importance of keeping the body fueled by eating every few hours. Thanks for the reminder. Your children are so fortunate to have you to care for them. Take good care, Rashelle > Hi Ellen, > Don't be hard on yourself, just eat your small meals 6 times a day. Guest guest
Hi Ellen, It's great to hear from you!!!! I've always loved exercise and it is something that I do for me. I like the way it makes me look and feel. I feel bad when I don't do it. As for reps. I decide the body parts that I want to work each day and just do it. I have a certain set of exercises that I do for each body part and they add up quickly. For example if I want to do outer thigh exercises on the floor; I have a pattern of 5 different exercises for the outer thigh that I do on the floor I do 5 of each on both legs that already equals 50 reps. It doesn't take long to do it. Have a good day!!!! Happy Easter Weekend!!!! Love, Liz --------- Liz, how do you do some many life lifts? I have trouble with 40!! I've been very bad. Guest guest
I remember my shock and surprise when I lived in Colorado to see golf courses with brown greens! Our golf courses are usually pretty lush, even when we're in a slight drought. It does pay to have the big drink (Lake Michigan) in our back yard. -dz- Untill I retire & can leve the NOT SO GREAT SOUTHWEST I can a brown yard & a little green in the bank or a green yard & no green in the bank. So I will be sticking with the green in the bank. But once I retire & head back to the midwest I can have both. Terry wrote:

Guest guest
Strange....... most of the golf courses are the only green we got. They have banned watering now for the lawns at all in Colorado effective the first.... so this is it. Our lakes are nearly bone dry and they predict another mild winter. They have already ordered the snow making machines at the ski slopes to be shut down till further notice come the ski season so.... we are in deep drought.
