Guest guest
One year ago on my first office visit to my HIV specialist I weighted in at 209 lbs... in Feb 07 I weighed in at 240 lbs. Not a happy camper to learn that this big belly is lipodystrophy. Recently I was thinking how 10 years ago I used ma huang and ephedrine hydrochloride tablets to help burn off quite a bit of body fat. With that in mind, I asked the research study nurse to look up in their vast amount of clinical literature on the meds that I am taking to see if there were any specific references to these products. She returned my call a couple of days later and said " no " they were not mentioned. I also stopped by at the hospital (in the HIV clinic) and asked the " research pharmacologist " the same question and they phoned me a couple of days later and said " no " that there was no reference to ma huang or ephedrine hydrocloride in regards to Reyataz, Norvir, Truvada, or Epzicom. I even called the help line of the makers of Reyataz, Bristol-Myers Squibb, and that employee said that there was mention of problems with taking the herb, Saint 's Wort, but no reference to Ma Huang in their database. So with that minimal assurance I decided to go to the convenience store today and purchase some. Of course many of us have heard about " how dangerous " this supplement can be... especially for those who abuse it... thinking that if a little is good then a lot must be better... very dangerous thinking with this product... many that abused it... 24/7 around the clock dosing... had heart palpatations or worse heart problems... or even death. It seems the manufacturers instructions were to take no more than 25 mg every 4 hours, no more than 3 times per day. This is the schedule that I used years ago without any problems... and is my dosing schedule now. I'll let this group know how I fair over the next few weeks... hopefully I'll report back with fat reduction. Has anyone else used ephedra while taking HIV meds? While doing a 30 min cardio session this morning on the recumbant stationary bike, sweat pored off me... it was a good feeling to know that my internal thermostat had been turned up and that I was once again burning fat.
