Guest guest
My viral load reached undetectable levels very quickly after beginning HAART in 1998, but I had already gone down to 49 t cells and was age 46. It took me a couple years to get up to 200. I think your situation probably isn't unusual for someone who has had an elevated viral load for years, lost much of their immunity, and is in their late 40s (as I understand it, the thymus has much less activity in older people and therefore your ability to reconstitute your immune system is lessened). The good news is that the ability of people on HAART to regain substantial immune function was originally underestimated. I was told I would have to remain on Diflucan for "the rest of my life", but in fact, I was able to totally clear a disseminated cryptococcal infection that nearly killed me. I no longer require antifungals or antibiotic prophylaxis. Give yourself some time. However, if you're able to get insurance to pay for it, you might want to try Interleukin 2. There has been much discussion of this in past posts. Norm Stuart describes a gentler protocol than that used in the big studies - three days instead of 5 every 8 weeks, with only 7.3 million units per day. Others here seem to be reporting some success with taking supplemental selenium, up to 800 mcg per day, which is a lot cheaper than IL 2. You might also want to keep tabs on your CD4 percentage, which seems to be a more stable indicator of progress than absolute CD4 numbers.Original message: Chronic low t-cell count Posted by: "babeler@..." babeler@... babeler1983 Date: Tue Apr 24, 2007 6:16 am ((PDT))Hi all:After about 25 years of having viral load a year ago March I got it down to undectible with a combo of t-20, truvada and the Tibotec duet study. My T-cells bounced up from under 100 to about 200. Now they have stayed at that level for 13 months. Why aren't they going up? I'm neg for Hep and i'm 48 years old. Thanks for your ideas,BabelerMessages in this topic (1)_________________________ Ahhh...imagining that irresistible "new car" smell? Check out new cars at Autos.
