Guest guest
, I don't know but my instinct would be that he might need a higher dose and the ALA as old as he is. I would do that before I would give up. Carol G
Guest guest
I do every eight hours with my little boy. Dr. Cave said you can use the 4 or 8 hour method. We did four hour without ALA. Now we give slow release every 8 hours. Do you have a copy of Dr. Amy's protocol? I have never seen this. Thanks LACitrus1@...
Guest guest
, No I have not seen any changes in my little boy who is now 5. We have seen only good things since we started the DMSA. He was developmental delayed. He does understand just about everything that we ask of him now. His fine motor skills have improved. He is nonverbal. He does say ma, ma, DA, DA, etc., now that we have started. We are on our 2nd round of DMSAw/ALA. He gets 60 DMSA and 30 ALA. Do you know if they increase this as the body gets use to it. Thanks,
Guest guest
, I'm wondering why the treatment schedule for this little boy is every 8 hours even with the ALA. Shouldn't it be every 3 or 4 hours? Why isn't Dr. Cave using the every-4-hours protocol that she and Dr. Holmes have recommended to everyone else? And why are they dosing at a great ratio (mg per body weight) than they have recommended in the protocol that they have sent out to other doctors? The DMSA/ALA ratio on their protocol says " 0.5mg DMSA/0.5mg ALA per pound of body weight every 4 hours " . I don't see this reflected in this boy's treatment. Would he do better on a more frequent dosage, I wonder? SO many questions? Guest guest
I went over the protocol with our doctor which is where I got my information. The only time it said to treat every 8 hours was with the DMSA-SR or DMSA/ALA-SR. But I thought I'd heard she was leaning more towards giving the dosages every 4 hours as of recently. oh well. Have you seen any difficulties since you switched to the 8-hour? Re: [ ] No mercury or tightly bound? > I do every eight hours with my little boy. Dr. Cave said you can use the 4 > or 8 hour method. Guest guest
We have used DMSA every 8 hour with great success, I recently read that kids clear out the DMSA at a substantially slower rate than adults. Adults clear about 1/2 of the drug in 2 hours and it takes over 2 hours to clear 1/2 in kids. It takes a couple of days for the metals to redeposit in tissue as well. That is why every 8 hours has worked well for many and why so many people see regressions after a couple of days into the off cycle. That is why we use a single low dose daily DMSA on off cycles at bed time to keep the free mercury from redepositing. Clinically it works on my kids and there is no plateau or regression on off days. WE also give the minerals on off days in the morning. We now give Chemet every 6 hours on on days and DMPS twice daily, once orally and a suppository at bed time. Presumably the DMPS will help push the mercury out as DmSA clearance in kids is relatively impared. We do not use ala and had a bad experience with it in terms of a flare up in symptoms that took a couple of weeks to recover from. It gave me severe headaches as well. Guest guest
, We are in the same boat, so to speak. Except that we are seeing changes. Our son is 20, so we expect the changes to be slow. We did three rounds in Phase 1 and found no mercury, as expected. Now we are starting our seventh round of DMSA/LA and will be testing urine and stool on Tuesday. We did find high arsenic and aluminum, also trace metals (including small amounts of mercury) in the hair. But we are still waiting for the big find of mercury. I think for some kids it is more of a search, and the mercury may be more tightly bound. OR maybe her son's detox systems don't work well. OR maybe DMSA doesn't work as well for him and they might have to try another chelator. Tell her to hang in there!!! We are! It's frustrating, but I keep telling myself that I know the mercury was injected into him--we just have to figure out how to get it out effectively.
