You have much more choice than gold & porcelain for a crown. There are

several other products available. You should have them checked for

biological compatibility before choosing. This is done using a Vega or

similar machine.

Hi lists,

To any of you who read both lists, I apologize for

the cross-posting, but I need some help right away!

I went to the mercury-free dentist this last week, and

had 3 of the 7 remaining metal fillings replaced. Good.

However, one of them actaully was not replaced: he found

really bad decay, and told me I need a root canal right

away. Folowed by a crown (either gold or porcelain).

Since I've never had a root canal before, and

since I've been reading scarry stuff about root canals,

I am unhappy about this news. And the items I've read

about the possible reactions between metals (amalgam

and gold) in different teeth makes me a bit leery of

putting a gold crown into a mouth which still has 4

amalgam fillings (although they will be gone very soon).

Since he said it is urgent, I've made an appointment with

the endodontist he recommended, next week.

The stuff I've read about root canals I've glossed over,

since I had none. Given that above, what should I be

worried about? Are there options that can lessen my

risk? Signs to watch out for AFTER the root canal that

indicate trouble?

Any opinions about gold vs. porcelain for a crown?

Thank you!

Moira,

Do not get a gold crown or any metal crown of any kind.

Like all metals they will leach into your system. and there's no

such thing as a pure gold crown.

Check out this web site:

It is an interview with Dr. Hulda e and a holistic dentist that

expains alot. Also check out her web site " http://www..net/ "

for more info. Apparently one needs to be concerned about the

source for even composite fillings containing metals (aluminum,

copper, etc.)

Dr. e specifies the proper way to make sure you get the

safest materials. You need to find a dentist who is aware of this, or

at least get the dentist to use the materials, which I believe you can

order yourself.

I'm not sure if this has been brought up already on one of the

lists, but there is a product called Califlex ( or something like that. I'll

try to fond the correct name)that is a better fill for root canals. I think

on the oxyplus list, there was some mention of it not being totally

safe.

The sure bet is that if you don't feel it's a very important tooth,

have it pulled. It's a healthier bet than the traditional root canal. I've

had one that never healed right, caused lot's of problems and after

a root canal and additonal surgery finally had to have it pulled.

One other thing you could try is accupressure or accupuncture.

I've heard of people getting great releif from both. I used to go to a

chinese accupuncturist when I lived in Hawaii who helped me a

great deal with tooth pain.

For the best holistic protocols on dentistry look up " Hal Huggins "

on the web.

I had all the mercury removed from my mouth four years ago

and it makde a big difference. But be careful about what your

doctor uses. I had a temp crown crack a few weeks back and found

that the dentist I used back in Hawaii had used a metal base for the

crown, after I specifically requested no metals of any kind. The

reason why I didn't catch it at the time was I had one quadrant (four

to five fillings) done at each visit for a series of four visits as this

dentist was on one of the other islands. Five hour appointments,

very exhausting, but well worth loosing the mercury.

Now, I need to find a reliable holisitc dentist to do the work in

Virginia.

If I can be of further help, let me know.

Best of luck to you,

Greg,

any more info on the Vega machine or other methods for checking

compatibility would be appreciated.

I had a blood, hair and urine analysis years ago via the Huggins

institute. Is the Vega method more reliable?

Do not mix metals in the mouth. Gold is too soft by itself so it has some

other type of metal mixed with it...not sure what. Remember that both

stainless steel and titanium posts used in root canals contain 5% nickel. I

insisted that they use no posts at all in mine. The dentist agreed to that

and just warned me it might not be as strong. I also heard bad things about

the gutta percha they usually use and therefore insisted on the new stuff

(sorry don't remember the name of it at the moment).
