Guest guest
Dear All, DH and I are attempting to take DS on a short break sometime this year ideally when the weather gets better. It will be our first time away in 6 years since DS was born. This has been partly due to financial reasons and also the fact that we don't think he will cope on a flight. I was wondering if anyone can recommend somewhere in the UK with appropriate facilities for children with SEN that we can go to for about 3 or 4 days. Preferably, not too crowded with a pool, slide, climbing frame etc I have never been to Centre Parks but wondered if there was something similar but on a smaller scale with not too many people. We reckon he can do a 2.5 hour journey from London at the most so will have to be somwhere we can drive to within that time. I am going to research on the internet but wondered if anyone had been somewhere similar. There's nothing like a personal recommendation. Thanks a lot, Cat
Guest guest
Hi Cat, Unfortunately I don't think my recommendation will be any good to you as it is more than 2.5 hours from London, but thought I would post it incase it is useful for anyone else. We live only a couple of miles from Bluestone, Pembrokeshire it's a bit like Centre Parks, but I think it's nicer! We stayed there in Dec 08 with our foster child who has autism just so as we could go on the snow tubing they had set up at the time for Christmas. We also regularly visit the water park with two children with autism. During week days (out of school holidays) it is REALLY quiet! The water park is vitually empty on a Monday afternoon, we have been the only ones there at times! They also have lots of other facilities. I know the sales supervisor so if anyone needed any specific things I could always speak to him to find out what is possible. Hope you find somewhere, Risca > > Dear All, > DH and I are attempting to take DS on a short break sometime this year ideally when the weather gets better. Guest guest
Hi Cat we have been to centerparcs several times with Sam (now 14!) over the years, that has worked pretty well but need to take own food if on diets etc, if you go in school time even quieter! but once in your villa its fine, swimming is good and especially quiet about teatime 6 pm onwards! I think people are more used to seeing autistic kids around now and if they stare just shout - oops sorry but I think I have got way past caring what others think now. You could also try the centre in Lincolnshire, really great, run by parents of autistic boy for us!! lovely pool, trampolines sunk into the ground, very peaceful and near beach Or what about the Horseboy camps, autism specific, we are going this July for first time, hope you have a great time whatever you decide to do! Guest guest
The best source is on facebook, they have regular updates of when their camps are. If you just type in on google it gives you basic info.
