Guest guest
, Kirkmans guarantee the product is free from Lead. Celia [ ] Kirkman Calcium Powder I put a question on this list to Dave at Kirkman asking whether their calcium powder was screened for lead but haven't gotten a response (should have called and now it's Saturday. argh!) Do any of you know? My daughter's lead was high and she gets this supplement every day. thanks!!
Guest guest
, I think you can assume if it comes from Kirkman it will be pure. (Cary, NC)persistentC@... Guest guest
Hi. I live in Oregon and am constantly dropping into Kirkmans office. I have had extensive conversations with Dave and believe with all my heart that their products are pure and I never think twice about buying anything there. They are wonderful people with the best of intentions for our kids. Also, Dave is out of town this week. That could be why he hasn't' gotten back to you. Thanks, Jeri Austin's Mom
Guest guest
Thank you. I thought the calcium (and everything else Kirkman makes) would be alright, but I dare not assume anything these days. Guest guest
The Kirkman Calcium powder is lead free and free of all heavy metals. It is a combination of calcium citrate and calcium carbonate. Both are excellent sources of calcium. As a manufacturer, we can choose various grades of calcium. We buy the highest grade (it really isn't that much more expensive). It is contaminate free .We get a lab test on each batch. Calcium supplements have had a lot of bad press reports because lead problems. Most of the problems were resolved several years ago as the FDA clamped down on excessive lead found in most calcium supplements but problems still exist. Most children with autism do not detox heavy metals well. It is obviously best not to add lead to their diets. The following is a recent article: LEAD FOUND IN SOME CALCIUM PRODUCTS( The Arizona Republic ) Newsday; 09-24-2000 Front Some over-the-counter calcium supplements contain small but measurable levels of lead, which over a period of years may have adverse health effects, researchers in Florida say in a new study. Researchers at the University of Florida in Gainesville analyzed 21 products of non-prescription calcium carbonate, which included 14 "refined" calcium products, described as those that have undergone a process to eliminate impurities, and seven "natural" preparations made from oyster shells. No lead was found in a second type of supplement known as calcium acetate. Results of the study, reported in the Journal of the American Medical Association, showed four of the 14 refined products and four of the seven formulations made from oyster shells contained detectable levels of lead. The products contained only trace levels of toxic metal, less than one microgram. High levels have been associated with learning and memory disorders and have been shown to ultimately deprive the body of oxygen. The amount of lead found was 1 microgram per 800 milligram dose of calcium and between 1 and 2 micrograms per 1,500 milligrams. The dose to treat osteoporosis ranges between 1,200 and 1,500 milligrams per day. "We don't want people to give up on the proven benefits of taking calcium supplements," said Dr. Ross, who led the study. "The levels of lead we're talking about here are very small and would only potentially be a problem after many years. But we also believe the less lead anyone is exposed to the better, especially since there are many calcium products on the market without detectable quantities." Ian Tebbett, a member of the research team, said lead is not added in the manufacturing process. "It's naturally occurring," Tebbett said. "Calcium carbonate comes from out of the ground and there is lead present in the earth when the calcium is mined. The good news is that the majority of the products we tested were lead-free." An acceptable level of lead for an adult, Ross said, is about six micrograms per day. This amount is consumed daily through breathing, eating and drinking. "That's the acceptable level in a clean environment," Ross said. "What we're saying is, why add more to that through your calcium supplement?" Guest guest
RE: [ ] Kirkman Calcium Powder >It is contaminate free .We get a lab test on each batch. At what upper ppm level of Pb would pull a batch of powder (action level)? What is the analytic sensitivity of your batch sampling methodolgy (again in ppm or ppb)? What is the analytical methodology you use for batch testing?
Guest guest
Kirkman's calcium specifications are: Not more than 0.3 ppm of lead. Any lot exceeding that limit is rejected. Methodology of lead analysis is by Graphite Furnace Atomic Absorption which offers a sensitivity of 0.01 ppm. -----Original Message-----From: Lorilyn Teasdale [mailto:kteasda1@...]Sent: Friday, October 20, 2000 4:27 AM egroupsSubject: Re: [ ] Kirkman Calcium Powder RE: [ ] Kirkman Calcium Powder >It is contaminate free .We get a lab test on each batch.
