Guest guest
Update on Abby - We took Abby back to Shriners yesterday for a post-cast checkup. She had her 2nd cast applied on January 4th. They did an X-Ray on her that day (Jan. 4th)while she was still under anesthesia. That X-Ray showed that her curve was down to 14 degrees (original curvature was 48 degrees). But, yesterday, they did an X-Ray on her while she was awake and that X-Ray showed that her curve is at 21 degrees. Her doctor told us that an X-Ray always looks worse when a child is awake. Have you all found this to be true? But, he is very happy with her progress. He is still insisting on giving her a 3 month (at least) break. We told him our concerns about having her regress. He still insisted and said that he would make sure she did not regress by doing X-Rays often to check for regression. He said that if there is any regression, he will put her back into a cast immediately. But, he says that he is concerned that if he doesn't give her a break for a little while she may have rib deformity.?? So, we will go with the bracing (not by our choice) for a short while and keep a very close eye on her curve. Also, Abby took 13 steps by herself yesterday! She is still not completely walking alone yet, but getting close! Let me know what you all think about the difference in her X-Ray under anesthesia as compared to the one where she was awake. Thanks! , mom of Abby in 2nd cast
