I would put here in a toddler bed. If she can't get in and out then she might

just stay in and you will be lucky. We switched Cole to a toddler bed at that

age. He could walk, but I think they don't test it as much at that age. He

laid down, slept and never questioned it.

Abby has been sleeping in her playpen since she was first casted back in the

Fall because with her cast on, it is very hard to life her in and out of her low

crib. But, now she is 29 pounds (in cast) and the weight limit on the playpen

is 30 pounds. Plus, she is getting too tall for the playpen. I have a toddler

bed bought for her. But, she is not walking yet. Would it be safe to put her

in a toddler bed when she is unable to walk yet? Would she be able to get

herself out of it when she awakes since she can't walk yet? Not sure where to

put her at night now??? Advice?

I think that would be okay. My son turned on his tummy and lowered himself to

the ground. They aren't far off the floor. She might begin to feel more

independant and brave and walk for you:)

We also have Doc sleeping in a playpen b/c of the cast. However, we're going to move him to a twin size mattress on the floor with safety rails soon. He already climbs onto his brother's bed (which is on the floor because big brother likes to launch himself at the 2nd story windows) and lays down for naps, so I think he's ready. I never saw the point in toddler beds, but then again, my kids were all very long babies who grew tall fast. The bigger things are to just make certain that all other safety equipment is in place- child gates need to be sturdier or fully wall-mounted, for instance. The cast gives them just a little extra weight and they can completely knock down most child gates. I don't bother with socket covers- I just completely remove the outlet

cover and replace it with a blank one (that has no openings for the sockets.)aMommy to Doc

Hey,We are in the same boat. Thaddeus will be 2 on Sunday and he is getting too tall for his crib. I was thinking about switching his crib to the toddler bed but don't know what to do. His is not walking either. We have been putting him in our bed because for some reason he hates the crib. He is doing well in our bed so I think he would do ok with the rails on his bed. It still worries me because he does move around a lot in his sleep. I do t think we have much of a choice, he will out grow his bed very soon. Good luckMommy to thaddeus Sent from my iPhoneOn Jan 19, 2011, at 6:57 AM, "juliechafin2005" <juliechafin2005@...> wrote:

We have a bed (thick foam mat) on the floor for nap times that has

worked well for our son. We keep this downstairs in our den so I can

easily check on him during the day. During the night, he sleeps in

his crib in our room, but has one side taken off and is pushed up

level to our bed. Again, we are most comfortable keeping him where

we can see/hear him and assist him easily during the night (he can't

even roll over by himself since getting the cast). We did this with

all our kids (8) and had no trouble transitioning them later to a

toddler bed and then big bed in their own rooms.

Perhaps those plastic toddler beds that are just a few inches off the floor? Or even just try the crib mattress on the floor for now to see how she does before you buy anything. One Step Ahead also makes a blow-up mattress with elevated sides that you could try as well. Thank you all for your advice on the sleeping arrangement. I am going to give

the toddler bed a trial run. For the first few nights, I will sleep in the same

room with Abby in case she wakes up and is scared. If this does not work, I

will probably have to put her in the crib.

We finally invested in the metal high gates after using all kinds of cheaper wood ones that Bex could knock down. He still isn't strong enough to open the high metal gates that are bolted to the walls at over three and a half, they were a great investment in our peace of mind! It's a foot pedal he can't press down hard enough on.Also we do use a toddler bed- one suggestion, you could put padding on the floor around it in case of a night fall- pillows, blankets, towels or the colorful rubber mats with ABCs and 123s on them.
