Our new baby (not our son with scoliosis) actually has a sacral dimple that sounds like what you are talking about.  I attached a picture.  Let me know if you can't see it.  Our pediatrician was completely unconcerned and didn't feel it needed to be looked at what so ever.  I, however, pushed to be thorough after the scoliosis. We had an ultrasound done and everything looks perfect.  Nothing to worry about.  They said that they are VERY common and occur in 3-8% of children.  We were told to think of it as a birthmark.  They can be genetic and my husband does have one too, with no problems.  I hope that helps.  Let me know if you want to chat more about it.

Good luckJennMommy to Cole (3) and Max (6 months)

goodness! I havent heard of any parents on here mention hernias or possibility of hernias presenting themselves after casting.

I have a question too....

Do any parents have children with pectus excavatum? Logan has it....and I think is the reason his ribs want to flare...I didnt know if it was possible for the pectus to get better after casting when they can stretch those chest muscles more....

Thanks all..

Hello,I am new to this group. My daughter Joy has infantile scoliosis (along with other issues, cleft lip/palate and some others) and has had 3 casts and now in a brace. She is 2 1/2. To answer Emma-Jane, my daughter had a sacral dimple and the orthopedic dr's went ahead and did an MRI to make sure she didn't have a tethered cord before they did any casting/bracing. She did not have any issues with it thank goodness. Question: My daughter just got out of her cast 2 weeks ago and into a brace. The day after she received a brace she showed signs of a hernia and is now waiting to get it surgically repaired. Could this have been caused by the casting/bracing? Any thoughts or advice on that would be appreciated.

Hi there,re: Holly, 17 months old, congenital scoliosis (hemivertebrae L3)Just wondering if anyone has experience with this type of sacral dimple.Holly has a dimple in her bum crease. It is small and shallow, and you can easily see the base of it.Both orthopedic surgeons we have seen (in Sydney Australia) have looked at it and said it was innocent and nothing to be concerned about. Both surgeons also said that there was no need for an MRI any time soon, but we are getting one soon anyway for our own reassurance.I have read that they are not any cause for alarm if they are in the 'gluteal crease' (aka butt crack), but on further reading saw that meant if it was within and inch of the anus and had no hair coming from it.Holly's dimple is shallow and small. It has a few tiny white blonde hairs in it (same as the very fine hair on her back) and it is more like 2 inches from the anus (but

still within the butt crease).Just wondering if anyone had a child with this type of dimple, and what the outcome was. Here's hoping those orthopedic surgeons know what they're on about!Emma-Jane

,Yes my daughter, Joy, has pectus excavatum too.  I haven't noticed yet a difference but I can see how it might help it. :)On Mon, Jan 24, 2011 at 7:14 AM, Medlin <amanda.medlin@...> wrote:

I’ve seen a few kiddos with hernias over the years, but am not sure exactly what the cause(s) were? I hope other mums will chime in.HRH From: infantile scoliosis treatment [mailto:infantile scoliosis treatment ] On Behalf Of and Leah JeffriesSent: Saturday, January 22, 2011 10:44 AMinfantile scoliosis treatment Subject: Re: Sacral Dimples Hello,I am new to this group.
