Guest guest
Jane, I don't know who we're seeing. Barb, the (very nice!) gal who books the appointments called this morning to tell me we'd been approved and give the appointment date. The appointment is at 9:30 am, so she figured we'd be coming down on the Shriners coach bus on Wednesday, have the appointment Thursday morning, then head back on the bus Thursday afternoon/evening. So you got fitted for a brace at your first appointment? I really don't know what to expect. Audrey's never seen an orthopedist at all - just a pediatrician. The gal who sets up transport is away on holidays until January 4th - the lady who answered the Shriners phone here in BC said that I could leave a message, and she'd have enough time when she got back to set up transport. I sure hope so, as my father-in-law has just booked the 5, 6, 7 off work so that he can take care of my son and foster kiddos and hubby can go with Audrey and I to the appointment. I suppose we could drive down ourselves, but I'd REALLY rather not - a 7 hour drive with baby stuck in a carseat (she's still eating every 2-3 hours and is breastfed) would be MISERABLE, plus hubby does not travel well (he gets crankier than the kids!), and crossing the border is a pain... > > Are you seeing Dr. D'A?  Expect the day to be LONG. Our first day lasted at > least 5 hours. We had x-ray, then saw the doctor, then went to the orthotics > clinic for a brace fitting, etc.  I've always found if I go prepared for a long > day, it ends up being short and vice versa. > > Good luck and keep us posted! We just got cast #5 yesterday...I'll post more > about that later. >  > Jane > > > > > ________________________________ > From: chilliwackpitbull <chilliwackpitbull@...> > infantile scoliosis treatment > Sent: Tue, December 21, 2010 11:30:13 AM > Subject: Shriner's appointment in 2 weeks! > >  > I just got a call from Portland, and Audrey's appointment is on January 6th! Guest guest
So sorry, I don't know how to help with the transportation issue. We live here in town, so I've never had to deal with that. We did get fitted the same day but didn't actually get it for 2 more weeks. Not sure what they would do in the case of someone from out of town. I'm sure it will all work out for you! Guest guest
Well, " our " Shriner (the gentleman who lives in our town and sort of manages our case I guess), called me not 5 minutes after I posted this Transportation is all set up. We leave from Burnaby, BC at 8:00 am on the 5th and come home late on the 6th. I imagine if they decide to go with bracing they'd refer her to someone in BC to do it? Or maybe we'd go back for a second appointment? I guess I'll find out when we get there! > > > > Are you seeing Dr. D'A?  Expect the day to be LONG. Our first day lasted at > > > > least 5 hours. We had x-ray, then saw the doctor, then went to the orthotics > > > clinic for a brace fitting, etc.  I've always found if I go prepared for a > >long > > > > day, it ends up being short and vice versa. > > > > Good luck and keep us posted! We just got cast #5 yesterday...I'll post more > > > about that later. > >  > > Jane > > > > > > > > > > ________________________________ > > From: chilliwackpitbull <chilliwackpitbull@> > > infantile scoliosis treatment > > Sent: Tue, December 21, 2010 11:30:13 AM > > Subject: Shriner's appointment in 2 weeks! > > > >  > > I just got a call from Portland, and Audrey's appointment is on January 6th! > >I'm > > > > nervous, excited, the works. > > > > It's our first appointment, and just a consult of course. Guest guest
Glad to hear its all set up. That has to be at least a little bit of a stress reliever. Do you know where you're staying the night of the 5th? Guest guest
Yep we're staying at the Portlander Inn. It'll be Audrey's first night away from home - hopefully it gors well. Any tips from you veteran moms on getting your littles to sleep somewhere new? We cosleep at home with Audrey in her cradle right next to the bed, so I think it should be easier than if she was used to her own crib and room. I'm planning to bring her regular Blanket. Guest guest
We always use a pack and play for our son to sleep in and bring his regular blankets from home. You could just put the pack and play next to your bed as you do w/the cradle. She should do just fine. Let us know how the appt goes! chilliwackpitbull <chilliwackpitbull@...> wrote: >Yep we're staying at the Portlander Inn.
