Guest guest
I feel like I'm spamming - sorry for all the posts! What's the wait time like to get accepted and seen at SLC? I just feel a little bit lost in this whole process The ONLY " testing " my baby's had done is physical exam and two sets of x-rays. Her first x-ray, taken at 10 weeks, showed a 13 degree thoracolumbar curve, but vertebrae were normal. Her second x-ray, taken at 16 weeks, showed a 15 degree thoracolumbar curve, vertebrae normal. She has, in the past 4 weeks or so, developed a noticeable rib hump, which the pediatrician confirms. PT assessment also showed stiffness/resistance to bending to her left or rotating to her right, and slight decrease of use/increased flexion in her right arm and left leg. She's meeting all her developmental milestones so far, and appears otherwise healthy. She's above the 95th percentile for height and weight. We have an appointment to see an orthopedic surgeon who's a spine specialist here in the province in late February. The pediatrician feel strongly that baby should be seen by a specialist sooner than that, but there's nobody else for her to refer baby to in province. Is this " enough " for me to be starting the application process for a Shriners' Hospital? I'm assuming that whoever sees her will want to examine her, x-ray her, and rule out other conditions that could be causing the curvature (vs. idiopathic scoliosis)? Should I be trying to get this part of things done at just any old Canadian Children's Hospital (our medical should cover it then, we'd just have to pay our travel and accommodations), and only applying to a casting/Shriners' hospital once that part of things is done? My doctor wants me to tell her where to refer baby to, and I don't really know
