Re: common for rotation to get worse while curve stays the same?

I would say as the scoli progresses the rotation is more pronounced than being

able to see the actual curve its self. Oviously the rotation is more noticable.

If the rotation is getting worse then the scoli is progressing. I would call

Portland Shriners and explain if you have to the urgency of the situation.

Good luck,

hump is getting more pronounced, and you can easily feel where her bottom ribs

butterfly out on the one side in the front when holding her. Or maybe she's

just getting taller and leaner?

Also, it could be muscle build-up on the curve/rotation that you're seeing.

Thanks - I didn't realize the curve could get worse without *looking* like it's

getting worse. Can I call Portland Shriners if they haven't approved our

application yet? It was sent in a couple weeks ago, but we haven't heard back

yet.

Absolutely! I called everyday until I had an acceptance and an appt date! Be

nicely pushy. Explain if you have to the urgency of the situation and that

progression is happening rapidly. I know a friend who goes there and once

accepted got in for the 1st appt quite quickly. Time is of the essence. I

would call tomorrow first thing. You are the only one who will advocate for

your child so be polite but make sure they will not overlook you.

Good luck and please let me know how it goes!

Do you know who I would call? Thinking it might come off a bit weird if I just

call the general switch board...I don't know the docs name, department name

(orthopedics I'm guessing), who handles bookings, etc...

I'm sure you'd be seeing the same doctor as we do. I'll email you off group the doctor's name, his care coordinator's name and her number. I'm already heading to bed tonight. I don't know if she can do much if you haven't heard from them as far as acceptance. I don't know why you wouldn't be. If it helps, that's what I did tho, I called the main number and explained my situation. They gave me exact times I would hear back from them. I'll write you again tomorrow. If you call the main number just tell them you have applied for acceptance to

the hospital and you want to check on the status of the application. They will

know who to put you in touch with. Let me know if that doesn't work and I will

ask my friend who to contact directly.

Yes, this is typical. Hopefully, Jenn (Ians mum) will chime in. If I

recall correctly her lil guy had significant rotation w/ a smaller curve.

Ditto Mel! Perhaps photos of the visible rotation might help?

Well said, Katsia. This ever common muscle build up diagnosis from

medical professionals is simply wrong when it comes to scoli in infants.

A ped ortho familiar with PIS would know this for sure. We should take a

poll on how many of us heard this from medical professionals when pursuing

proper diagnosis for our littles.

My son Caden's curve went from 54 to 8 degrees. You can still see a mild rotation in his hips though. Don't know if it could ever be corrected. Drives me crazy because he had such great progress and I don't want the rotation to affect the spine once again. He is in a brace much of the day though so I am hoping it holds up.
