Hi Alison!

Nice to hear from you again? and hope you had a good christmas and NY? (apart from peeing accidents!)

Sam has similar problems, some days worse than others and it is hard to get to the bottom of, Dr Fell was pretty sure it was bowel (irritated bowel = irritated bladder) and thinks Sam should be on movicol at least twice a day (I think this makes him bloated and uncomfortable and he goes every day) but Dr F thinks we are always 2-3 poos behind even if bowels working well.

Afraid it is an ongoing saga here, and partly I think behavioural maybe in some ways, ie he pees more when people are here, change of routine, at school to get out of class for a while, I don't know and sorry not much help!

Hassocks, how is it going, looks like a great school!

Dear EveryoneI need advice - can anyone throw any light on the fact that Orlando (11) - has had almost constant pee accidents all of his Christmas holiday - up to 10 pairs of trousers and pants a day.At first i thought it was a UTI as he kept complaining that "my pee pee hurts" - but after a trip to the local doctor (we were not at home and had to brave a new surgery - hideous - thats another story) - and a course of UTI antibiotics - it got marginally better for a day or two and then worse again. He doesn't seem to realise that he is having these accidents - we have to spot them and make him change all the time.He is also going to the loo fairly - but not unusually - regularly. The doctor suggested that it could be constipation - and i seem to recall that this sort of thing has happened on a lesser level before - of course being Christmas his vitamin and supplement regime has gone slightly

haywire - but in the days before Christmas when i really concentrated on Vitamin C and Oxypowder - the liquid poo was so powerful that it left him with a really sore bottom.Does anyone have any clues?I am at my wits end - he is meant to be going back to Hassocks his weekly boarding school tomorrow morning - and he wants to go, has been talking about it for about a week - and i don;t want to throw his schedule - but i don;t know whether to keep him off school and take him to our home doctor? he will be home on Thursday anyway - as we are pre Tribunal and can only fund him at school 3.5 days a week at the moment.would really appreciate some help/input. THANKS SO MUCH. Alison

Hi Ali,

I would agree absolutely 100% with what Di said. One other thing that happened

to a while ago was we had high levels of Pseudomonas on a STOOL test

(not done via GP but thru Genova). I asked my GP if we could treat with

antibiotics and they did. sometimes has periods when she pees a lot

too, bit of bed wetting. Well after these antibiotics her nighttimes were os dry

and I hadnt even been thinking about anything like that. Trouble is that wouldnt

probably have showed up in a urine test. He probably still has some residual

infection. I too think the bowel bladder link is HUGE, irritated bowel same for

bladder very often. Wharever you do it woulkd affect the going abck to school

bit. I also think we have this a lot when s bowel is overloaded adn when

she is yeasty but bacterial overgrowth a likely suspect too. Usually we just

work thru it all, bowel clear out, lotsa probios, candex, maybe some colloidal

silva would be good to try.

Lotsa Luck

Dear Alison,

Not sure how useful this is but do you do B12 in any form? Just wondering as we

get pee accidents whenever we go through a period of ramping up his B12. B12 can

take a while to kick in with some kids before detox hits. Hope you find some

answers.

Kind regards,

Angelle

If it hurt him to pee prob def was a UTI but perhaps he was not sensitive to

antibiotic he was on for the uti did the gp send the sample to lab this would

confirm which antibiotic would work best for particular infection/.

Alison,

Does your son's urine have a strong ammonia smell?

My ds is not toilet trained but from Aug 09 to now he is suffering

recurrent UTI's (not clear if it is the same UTI which does not clear or

a new one each time). His been on several antibiotics. Sometimes he

has very frequent but small wees and other times it's just flooding. We

also have interruption of the urine stream and difficulty urinating.

We've had high oxalates on testing (privately) but before this at age 3

he had a scan/test to look at kidneys and technician doing the test

confirmed and pointed out stones, however consultant denied this!! He

was at this time getting white sediment in the urine and appeared to be

in pain.

Dr F has told us the same as what Di's been told irritated bowel/not

clearing = irritated bladder therefore more likelihood of UTI's.

Unfortunately ds has bad reactions to movicol (oxalate issue?), so Dr

advised using docusate enemas(suppositories).

We don't seem to get to the bottom of this and urine dipstick frequently

shows protein and leukocytes. Last test picked up leukocytes but lab

was not able to find any bacterial growth???? I suspect our problem is

more to do with oxalates than the bowel. We're on oxysilver, bicarb,

cranberry extract, giving lots of fluid and follow part of the Vit K

protocol but nothing seems to stop this.

Alison hope you find what's causing this for your son.

Hi Alison,

as others have mentioned, what you have described screams out to me to be a

problem with a build up of oxalates. You have described exactly some of the

problems we experienced with ds before we worked out what the real problem was.

Our ds had alot of pain when urinating which was either diagnosed as a UTI or

being caused by constipation by our GP at the time. Sometimes the antibiotics

would help with this breifly but it always came back and treatment with

laxatives didn't help either.

Things really got much worse when we decided to treat his constipation with high

doses of Vit C and this was when the penny dropped with me as to what the

problem was. Vit C can be metabolised in the gut into oxalates/oxalic acid which

exacerbates the problem and as well as causing irritation in the urinary tract,

excessive amounts would inflame the bowel also, which seems to be what you are

describing.

Unfortunately this sort of oxalate dumping can take a while to calm down. I

would suggest you cut back on the C to see if that helps, look closely at his

diet and other suppliments. Also this website has some useful information about

this problem and list things that might help and things to avoid.

Hi Alison,

We had similar problems with our daughter a few years ago and it seemed to be

related to sugar. Whenever she ate sugary food or had a drink of juice she would

urinate uncontrollably some 20 to 30 minutes after. She always looked shocked

and it was obvious she had no control over this.

It got much better after we stopped giving her sugar and juice.

We have since discovered that she is fructose intolerant and so limit the amount

of fruit she eats and we have no problem with bladder control at all now. She

was also having problems with yeast at the time so that might also have been

related. Maybe you could check your son out for Yeast and cut out sugar.

She also had bedwetting problems when she was detoxing using NCD Zeolite and for

a while she had to be in nappies at night.

Hope that helps,

Yasmeen

I second this - high sugar, and a lot of fruit, equals these accidents for us
