Guest guest
Hi! With all of the discussion about the airport scanners (and pat-downs), I was just wondering what everyone's experience has been with the kids' casts and braces? ~, 's mom

He will not stand in their little tube without me in there and they are not going to be able to do a full body pat down either. I fly out on December 11th, I will let everyone know what we go through then. Wish us luck cause I am going all by myself this time. > >Beth Rettinger >Mother of >In Third Cast From SLC > > > >From: NIck Guthe <nickguthe@...> >Subject: Re: Airport scanners >infantile scoliosis treatment >Date: Wednesday, November 24, 2010, 1:10 PM > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > >Â > > > > > > > > > > We've had mostly good experiences with the cast- twice we have asked to be moved to the front of a long line so we didn't miss the plane for a medical appointment and the airline employee took us straight to the desk. > >We also get early boarding passes at the gate. We just show them the cast and that does it. I always tell them in security that he is wearing a cast and they always call someone over and swab it and his hands- it takes just a few minutes. Once they didn't know who to call (a male for a male child) and it got hairy, but 15 minutes later we were on our way. >Â Heidi, Bexon's Mommy, (3 years old, in 8th cast from Salt Lake City Shriners, currently down from 62 degrees to 20 in cast. Guest guest
Good luck Beth! I always request a wheelchair for Liv and we are able to go through security together. I know is able to walk but requesting a wheelchair may make the whole process a bit easier for you and lil J. The wheelchair eliminates having to wait in long security lines and usually the TSA people are super cool if you just explain the situation. Going through security w/ a wheelchair would keep you both together and would probably just consist of them waving the metal detector in front/back of him and doing a very, very light pat down per your request. (if they even have to do that, since he's in cast, right?) I also call the airline the day before to give them a heads up. Let us know how well it goes. Guest guest
I am jumping in late here, but Gabi went right through the security thing with her brace on. They had to do a double take for her toy puppy in a dog crateas it went through that xray thing - it had batteries which made it look like it was really breathing. A couple of them were like do you see this ? > > > >From: NIck Guthe <nickguthe@...> > >Subject: Re: Airport scanners > >infantile scoliosis treatment > >Date: Wednesday, November 24, 2010, 1:10 PM > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > >Â > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > We've had mostly good experiences with the cast- twice we have asked to be moved to the front of a long line so we didn't miss the plane for a medical appointment and the airline employee took us straight to the desk. > > > >We also get early boarding passes at the gate.
