Guest guest
We have found that Bree (HFA/ADHD/runner) really NEEDS to have things to look forward to. She says to me many times a day " Where are we going today, Mommy? " And if I can say at least " To the store " or " To the post office " she will calm down and go on. If I say " Nowhere today " she loses it! So we keep our plans very clear to her, and let her get a small " surprise " whenever possible as we run our errands, or whatever. Then, if she starts having a melt-down while we are out, I quickly say into her ear " You need to be good so you can have your surprise! " I also try to bring up something fun coming up soon, and say " You need to help Mommy, remember tomorrow we go to the zoo! " You get the idea. Of course I have to explain to her siblings what I'm doing so they don't feel left out. And I've even heard them say to her " You better be nice, Bree, or you can't go with Daddy! " etc.etc. She is almost desperate sometimes about " having a plan " and knowing what the next exciting thing might be. Has anyone else noticed this about your HFA? Just curious, Kathy
