Is it possible to use supp. onlt night when there would probably not be a bowel movement and then use oral the rest of the time? My kiddo is a great sleeper, I mean like a brick for 10 hours and I have visions of this coming to a screeching halt!! Remember that the younger the child, the more likely that child is to have a higher body burden of mercury. The older the child, the more likely it has moved into the brain. My child is 7, and we have been on phase I (DMSA only) for over 2 months. The mercury level has risen, so we will continue this until it drops. Maybe you should ask to review the protocol yourself. I spent a good deal of time talking with our compounding pharmacist about this though, and he said unless I could guarantee that there would be no BM for 5 hours, I shouldn't do it. Since we have previous experience with ibuprofen suppositories, I knew that was going to be a BIG issue. (Cary, NC)persistentC@... Dean sleeps right through it, and doesn't have a BM until the next afternoon. When we first started chelation, we were only using suppositories, and I don't think he was getting the full amount of the medicine. He was having several BM's a day, and it was obvious that there was some left in there. But thank goodness for the liquid!! I think using them at night is very safe , though. I have to put about an inch of Sunny Delite in a sippy cup, add the med, put the cup's lid on very tight, and then he'll drink it! They are 8 hour time-release and have been compounded by a pharmacist of Dr. Amys in LA. My doctor believes you get better absorption through that route of entry. However, the day time insertions are becoming more of a battle and I may switch to oral for day and use the suppositories at night only. The compounding pharmicist said that the 4 hour suppositories are absorbed in the body within 10 minutes (I have also heard from another pharmicist that it take 30 minutes.) He said that the 4 hour is absorbed quicker than the 8 hour, that is why we use the 4 hour during the day and the 8 hour at night. Hope this is helpful. We have used the suppositories for about 3 rounds of DMSA alone and 2 rounds with ALA and I have not seen this at all. Not to gross anyone out but when my son had his bowel movement the next day (after more than 8 hours of placement of suppository)every time he would have some white stuff (part of suppository, I guess) at the beginning of his stool. Does it mean that the suppository can be used for more than 8 hours since it did not dissolve completely? Or that his absorbtion level is too slow and it should not be used at all? My compounding pharmacist told me that in a four hour suppository, the medicine would absorb in 30 minutes to an hour. It depends on the child's average body temperature. What is left , if there is anything, is usually just the base compound they use to mix it with. Guest guest Posted October 15, 2000 Report Share Posted October 15, 2000 ---Have heard of several kids with a little bit of white " residue " ...it's ok.....also about white stool.....the lighter the color the more chance that there is malabsortion. No suprise with most of the kids having intestional problems. Some, further along on chelation, have stated that " on " days stool is very dark and dense (good sign metals are in there) also " off " days, the stool is lighter (good sign that we should be building up vits/min as they are being depleted with chelation. That is what they do, suspend an RX into a liquid form, if that is what you need or suppositories. Maybe your child will only take cherry flavored meds., you can request that.
