And you must let me know if Hannah learns to ride that bike and tell me the secrets... Siarra has made so many improvements since her diagnosis 4 years ago, but riding a bike/pedaling still escapes her... if anyone has any advice on this let me know. We are also going to a skating party today and that should be fun.. LOL.... Siarra cannot skate either and since Mommy hasn't done it in about 20 years I won't be much help! Don;t ask me about skating, i like my feet firmly planted on the ground, this is when daddy comes in handy as he is canadian and knows all about such things,[thank goodness], Cheryl Re: Hannah's improvement It does sound like Hannah is doing great... Guest guest Posted October 20, 2001 Report Share Posted October 20, 2001 Our daughter , who is 12, is now a champion bike rider, thanks to the great training wheels you can find on www.fatwheels.com (you can also find 's picture there). could never master the balance and complete attention it takes to ride without training wheels, but we found that typical training wheels would wear out very quickly and also didn't support her very well as she got older. Fatwheels makes training wheels with steel brackets and real pneumatic tires. The product was developed so typical kids could go on long bike rides with their parents. In our case, this was the perfect solution. and I go on 4-6 mile bike rides which is both good exercise and a way for her to enjoy motion and the freedom of getting places by her own power. I don't have to worry about her tipping over and getting hurt and we can concentrate on just enjoying the ride and learning road rules. I recommend this product HIGHLY. The thing that did it for her is that she saw a bunch (6 or 7 or more) neighborhood kids riding on our street. They were doing jumps etc., and she just got on, and rode. It was pretty amazing. No matter how much WE tried to teach her, it just didn't happen. It was like she had to "see" it. As with a lot of our kids, Jacqui is a strong visual learner. Hope that helps. Guest guest Posted October 22, 2001 Report Share Posted October 22, 2001 Thanks for the link to Fatwheels... we could use some better training wheels as now the bike is so big and topheavy that the training wheels do not do their job. We won't give up! I call Siarra spaghetti legs because she seems to know HOW to pedal but she will not push hard enough to make the bike go anywhere. Our trip to the skating rink went really well... she wanted to try which was a thrill for me! dad says we need to slow the wheels down and then practice more. And we did make it to all three of our parties, by the third one Siarra wasn't interested in socializing with the kids but that was OK. I had written about Jan's regression and problems, but in the midst of all that she has been coming to me with suggestions of gifts for her sister's approaching birthday -- something she has never done before! Also, I kept Jan at home yesterday because they were having a substitute teacher and lots of changes in routine and last time that too place it went badly. I asked for Jan's work to be sent home so that she wouldn't be behind. She had three subjects (one was math) and had them all done in one hour. From what I could see, once she understood the objective of the lesson, she just raced ahead with it and got it done correctly. I'm wondering if some of the behaviors could be because she isn't being challenged enough and has too much free time on her hands to do things she shouldn't.
