I spoke to SW again this evening, report was huge, they only had me read the analysis while they were here and told her 2 kids she knows have been on medication of various SSRI/heavy duty types for 5 years Rx'd by medics with no approval for treatment of autism at all, not tested on kids either.

Sod it, I think I will say that given the seriousness of opinion by Safeguarding children team I will stop the lithium and adjust his DIET to contain more food high in Lithium and ask if that's OK or will he still need a blood test?

I switched from New Beginnings Liquid to a tablet of Lithium Orotate crushed. I don't know the form in the liquid as it doesn't say and they haven't answered my emails but I assume Lithium Chloride or Sulphate. When we started we did the liquid as MinerALL has disappeared off the radar and I couldn't get any. It was 6 weeks after running out and switching to a lesser multi the really awful behaviour started, more than aggression, bordering on violence, all directed at me mostly, a few unsuspecting members of the public in supermarkets also got a whack, we were housebound for 3 weeks as I feared for others safety and could not be sure I could keep him safe, he'll be as tall as me by new years and I'm no squirt.

He was super cool within 2 weeks. Then I ordered the tabs and found MinerALL. When they arrived, probably 4 weeks of dosing liquid I switched to them and stopped the liquid (man that stuff cots a fortune). I only just figured this out. So today I start again with the liquid. He has been up and a bit down but managable and half hearted since we started the tabs, had some major die off from KIB500 and I think we have reached a point in the HANDLE exercies that all sorts of things are happening/changing and sending him a tad off kilter, its very much the same as when we were doing the brushing.

So now I wonder whether Lithium ever had anything to do with improvements at all or maybe the is a maximum amount which if you go past then you lose effect, we have been as high as 22mg per day per JMcC............2009 is my tenth year of biomed and still I have not a clue!

good god, Mandi.  how ridiculous on their part.   Sorry, I don't know anything about other studies but I hope you get through this with your sanity intact.

Just got site of the core assessment, in it under health we have

" It is recognised by Dr Doherty that the use of Lithium for a child with autism constitutes a medical concern and has been advised by her colleagues from the Core Diagnostic Team at Dorset County Hospital that Lithium is not a medically recognised treatment for autism "

I have no clue who the hell Dr Doherty is

Right them what about all the bloody awful they Rx for our kids that are also not medically recognised treatments for autism.

I disputed it and said Lithium Orotate is not a DRUG, told them to look for it in the BNF where they would only find carbonate and asparate versions of it.

God I sound like a mad woman in this assessment, wish I had never mentioned it at all (yes Marg you were right again!) However, they know about biomed from yonks ago

Mad Mandi

PS Remind me again what are the medically recognised treatments for autism - is there anything but that silly Ritalin study they did in Scotland??

I would say that you previously did not know that there was any danger

associated with Lithium and the moment you were told (ie now) you

stopped immediately. Otherwise they may insist on tests to check that

you are not lying. They might anyway but abject capitulation might head

them off.

I've always found that capitulation and asking advice/help immediately

removes all officialdom from the area -- whereas standing your ground

worries them. So unless your ground is rock solid I would not stand on it

Sorry coming into this late but I had similar confusion with Growing Minds over lithium. Joe is taking 2.5mg every other day. I imagine Same was on simiar dose. Lithium for bi polar is prescribed at approx 600mg per day. GM explained that lithim in that mega dose is normally prescribed for life as a last resort because as well as removing the lows it also removes any happy feelings.Lithium on the tiny ASD dose is not going to have a similar effect IMO.Having said that I would also write and say I'd stopped giving it, FWIW

>>That what I have done this morning. I will also write to this doherty woman and say the same but ask also nicely for a list of approved medical treatments for autism that I should consider when Sam's behaviour go back to how it was before..........and I need to see Dr Barnsley for treatment options :) <- sickly smile :)

Lithium Orotate is a completely different things to aspartate and carbonate both of which stay in the blood and can cause death at high doses. they could not find a bean on the blood test - orotate goes into cells to do it job so actually its not like they can check I've stopped it as testing will tell them zilch, as I had predicted.
