Guest guest
Hi Virginia, I have had a Ped give me an RX for antibiotics before to be used if my son develops an infection. There is usually a " gray " area--right before the infection--we as Moms often take our kids in during this time. The Docs know an infection is probably developing, but they can't quite see it clinically yet. We have talked here before of taking our kids in too early--before the Ped can see what's going on. You did the right thing, though, since he was running a good temp and short of breath. Also, remember our PID kids can develop an infection very quickly--much quicker than healthy kids. My son has been fine one day, and had a severe infection by the next day--this has happened too many times to count. The other thing is PID kids can have a virus (with high temp) which turns into a bacterial infection needing abx. I hope he is better soon. Sandi--Mom to , age 9. Suspected IgA def., Tetrology of Fallot, chronic sinusitis, chronic ear infections, asthma, severe allergies, GERD. Ten surgeries, heart surgery pending.
