Is your husband able to go with you for the first one?

Our hospital has a system that we call them when we are leaving the

house and they order the med so when we get there it is ready,if not

then it could be a long time to wait, sometimes the nurse calls us

bright and early so they get things ready ahead of time. We always

get the IV team, the girls were a tough stick in the beginning but

they seem ok now but I prefer to let the experts do it so it doesnt

have to be done more than once. The IV team prefers not to use any

numbing creams since it constricts the vein and you never know where

the stick is going to be anyway, unless they have a good vein.

We get a complimentary lunch which is nice,we bring backpacks with

toys and games. The girls love their backpacks, they have special ones

for the hospital.

One thing we have done is being honest,we tell them a few days ahead

that they are going on Friday for their " special Medicine " (I think

they think they are special to get special medicine)and I always just

support how they feel, sometimes they cry and sometimes they dont

blink. Its ok to cry and its ok to be scared. We have tried to make a

positive experience out of it for eveyone.

But be on alert for those mommy emotions!!! I was fine with it and I

knew we were doing the right thing but whe we got to the big double

doors that said " Day Medicine " I froze! I started to cry and I

couldnt walk through the doors,I knew that on the other side of the

doors was a harsh reality that my baby isnt perfect and she is going

to lead a difficult life and all those emotions came pouring out. I

then composed myself, looked at my daughter and I had to be strong for

her and we walked through the doors with our heads up.

Good Luck and keep us all informed!
